I have the chance of buying a stilo key but don't know if this will work as I know they are coded for each car. Can someone help me beofre I end up with something that isn't any good to me..........................

:bang:

the stilo uses the fiat code system2 meaning any key can be programmed into any car but only if the 4 digit code is available for the car (all uk cars have the code held by fiat, others have a code card) fiat charge £60 to program one key, its a 10 minute job on their laptop, the robbing swines. i'd ring your local fiat dealer to get a price for programming the key in first.

Jug, thank you so much for getting back to me.

I have just called Souls garage and have been told they will not touch a 2nd hand key. I have to take along all paperwork and get a new one which will cost £100+. I said also the car was bought 2nd hand and had Irish Plates and he said it get's worse.........

I am really concerned now re my pride and joy. Surely being Irish shouldn't matter! I bought it from a reputible garage

same problem as my girlfriend, her mk2 punto sporting is an irish import so fiat UK dont keep the codes for it. basically if you dont have the code card you're screwed. you cant ever program new keys into the car.

to make sure you dont get stuck with no keys i suggest you go to timpsons and ask them to copy any keys you have (keep at least 2 spares at home), they cant make remote keys but at least you wont ever get in a situation where you have no working keys. one key is approx £20 at timpsons.

i'm trying to find a solution to this problem but so far i'm getting no where. i contacted fiat UK and they said they cant help with imported cars, so they gave me a phone number for fiat in italy or somewhere abroad, and i was told that only uk cars have the code kept on record (due to insurance company requirements in the uk), all other models come with a code card and that is the only way you can get the code.

i guess you dont have the code card? my girlfriend's car didnt come with one (n)

Jeez Jug, there ain't much hope for me then as I don't have any card. The garage yesterday said there wouldn't be a problem

I just want to have a key incase I loose my one and only. I take it the Timpson key dosn't have to be programmed! I thought the blue blipper key (which I have) was coded hence switching the immobiliser on but I am beginning to think the car doesn't have one .............. Sorry for sounding dumb.

HI STILO66... when you say you've got a chance to get a second hand key I'm a little confused?? The keys on the stilo are cut by fiat to chassis number so a second hand key wouldnt match your existing keys + locks...
The code card isnt issued usually to uk cars from sale and dealers (like myself have to obtain the codes from a security register which costs us) a new key from a dealer will set you back around £120... inclusive of key code and programming.

Hi 55stiloschuey,

Ebay is selling a blue blipper which I thought I could purchase and get coded in order for me to have a secondary but have been told the garage will not touch it.

All I want is a 2nd key as I am in deep trouble if I loose the blipper I have at anytime.

The blipper part can be coded so you'd have a remote but thats it...

You cant buy the blade part of the key seperately (unlike many other manufacturers) unfortunately.. FIAT do have us over a barrell.:bang:

timpsons make an exact copy of your key for £20, so it will have the same code as your current key. it will work as soon as you get it and requires no programming, as far as the car is concerned both keys are the same one. the only difference is the new key wont have a remote, so if the alarm is on you'll need to turn it of with the small key, but its still fine for an emergency spare. if you get stuck with no keys life is far worse.

mmm We have a cloner at work that copies the code 1 key but I've never heard of it being managed on the code 2 system.. I'm pretty certain all stilo keys are laser cut type... (i might be wrong on that)

Thanks everyone for your help. Cars have never confued me to be honest but since buying the Stilo I am getting to the point of :bang: lol

Jug, I was under the impression that I had an immobiliser hence the blue blipper an a Timpson key wouldn't work.................. d'oh.

Please dont buy second hand keys, and please ignore Jugs comments, he appears to be a little confused.

Code 2 keys have a roling code and are programmed to each car by fiat and then supplied to the dealer that then finishes the coding onto the vehicle. All codes are kept by Fiat UK (ISR) for uk vehicles, codes for non uk vehicles can be obtained by contacting the original countries fiat importer or Fiat Italy.

a timpsons key does work the immob, just not the alarm or remote locking, i've successfully copied system2 keys at timpsons recently.

numanR i agree the system2 codes are held by fiat uk and you need to get fiat to program a new key into a system2 car using the code, but they can program 2nd hand keys in the same way. reg vardy fiat agreed to program a 2nd hand key into my girlfriend's car (mk2 punto sporting) but then couldnt because its an import and so they cant get the code.

foreign models dont have a code on register in their countries. i tried and was told only uk cars have a code register, other cars only have the code card. losing the code card on foreign system2 cars is the same a losing the red key on system1 cars. thats why my girlfriend can never have new keys programmed into her car. fiat tried for hours and failed (dont know why it took them hours if they didnt have the code it should take 5 mins to realise it aint gonna work??)

i've tried to get the code from fiat ireland, and i've asked fiat italy for help too. everyone said the code is not held on register, only UK cars are. if you know different i'd be willing to pay you for the information. i've tried for months to get the code, so please help me if you can.

Sorry Jug thats not true, think about it, how would dealers abroad get keys supplied if Fiat didnt have a database, the only difference in the uk is that the codes were never given to the uk owners due to the insurance companies.
Fiat have a central database in Italy, they also supply code cards through fiat parts, obtained from a central database.

 I never realised it was so difficult

I am just scared incase I loose the only key I have

I understand that T14086 but never expected this. I have foreign cars all my driving years but none like this............ I just seem to be crossing hurdle after hurdle at the moment :(

i've been told by several fiat dealers and fiat UK ireland and italy that losing the code card on a system2 car it is the same as losing the red key on system1 models. there is no register of red key codes, and similarly there is no register of code card codes.

can you please help me get in contact with someone at fiat who knows about the database you mention? fiat ireland gave me the contact details for the original supplying dealer of my girlfriend's car. the dealer also said that they cant get me a new code card and they cant get the code (even if i brought the car to them with all its keys and proof of ownership). their advice was "dont lose the code card" which is a bit hard when it was lost before we got the car. i really need help!

I ordered the code card for my Stilo from the dealership parts department - cost me a few quid, and it came within a few days.

I would imagine if I lost it, I would just order a new one.
