Hi there.

So my grandmother's got a Stilo 1.6. It's been with the family for the last 13 years. So i would be sad to see it go, and it's got a whole lot more mental value than it would be worth if we were to sell it and buy her a newer car.

The thing is though, as every stilo probably through it's lifetime it's suffering the dreaded Loose connection, ASR failure, Alt. failure and non working dials. As well as immobilizer interference some times.

So fun part is that we took the chance without getting the car diagnosed and sent the ECU away for repair.

We made a fair good deal with guy who repaired it, and arranged a price if it turned out not to be the fix.

Price ended out being less than a diagnose would cost, since he weirdly enough didn't find any loose solderings??? And since fault is only intermittent of course, it would be a real pain to locate.

Although he didnøt find anything wrong with the soldering, but decided to fix some, that may had a chance of failing within the next couple of years or so i guess.

A couple of days after we got the ECU back, mounted it in the car, and until now, nothing's been wrong...

So in case it turned out that the ECU was not at fault, do any of you have some good suggestions and experience with something else causing these faults, and maybe could give some advice in case the problem's still there.

Regards Frederik

It wouldn't surprise me if it was the ECU. Particularly with the 1.6 they're known for it.

The ECU on the 1.6 mounts in a poor location where it is subject to quite a bit of heat soaking which causes all sorts of faults. Typically it causes solder connection issues or the ECU pins themselves to drop to the point that they no longer make a viable connection.

You've probably fixed the issue, even if the guy didn't realise it.

Let's hope you're right [emoji6] It's a real pain this.. For now we'll just have to see how it turns out. We're gonna get the ECU moved to the battery box, to prevent this from happening in the future
