I put in a RipSpeed [ subset of Halfords ] DVD player I bought from Halfords with free fitting. It was so cheapo I could afford to throw it away if it was no good.

I was not chuffed with the RipSpeed speakers so decided to fit the radio myself and change the speakers a~n~other weekend .. .. .. I never did change the speakers, I was amazed at the capability of the original speakers and decided that the if~it~aint~broke~don't~fix~it rule was best. I'm pleased I did

I can get 700 trax on a CD and 1000's on a DVD so the multichanger was thrown away. In addition I now have photo',s videos, DVD's, USB kit, rear camera, etc. It was the best £86 I ever wasted.

- lucky ? they were compatible, yes I probably was but I did do a lot of research
- cheapskate ? no it was an unintended and beneficial consequence
- happy ?, yes as Larry ! - and then some :) :D

You're welcome pete123 mate !

Regarding the original speakers. Replaced the standard head unit today with a sony item from halfords, (on sale as it is due to be discontinued).
The stock speakers are actually reasonably good, I had planned to replace them but I don't think I will bother after hearing them with a new head unit.
Link below to the head unit I bought, Not a bad piece of kit for the money.

Good the [ subset ] original fitted [ paired to Blankpunt ] speakers seem to be more tha fit~for~purpose, and the real saving is an xtra shedload of xtra money & xtra work. :D

I recently replaced the standard head unit with an Alpine CDE103 and i was also amazed in the sound difference, however, the rear door speakers still sound shizz so i'm gonna replace them with a decent full range set. You can buy an adaptor plate for the rears to give you a better choice of speaker.

Hi,

Very sorry if I am asking a silly question, I really have tried to research myself, but my head now hurts as I have no real idea what I'm looking at. Let me explain...

We have recently purchased a 5 door Multipla 2003 (or 04, not sure, it's reg oct 03) sx Jtd diesel. Now I'm a car newby, in fact I haven't even passed my test yet, and I would like to purchase a new sound system, ie stereo and speakers, for my boyf for Christmas (this is actually his login, I'm hoping he doesn't get notified of replies etc or it won't be much of a surprise). But try as I may, I am just baffled by the different types of speakers.

Can you help??? Can any advise what size speakers I can buy and if I will need any extras to fit them ie fascias etc?? The more info the better...

Thank you in advance

HiYa,

You might have forgotten to read the thread, the whole raison d'etre of which was to use the excellent existing speakers which are more than good enough to do the job.

If however you simply want to splash~the~cash on new speakers I'll leave that for others to 'size' for you. Your best bet is to GoTo anywhere that sells car audio and have a look at what's available in your price range, what will fit, will it need a DIN fitting etc then come back here and ask questions, two examples would be :

£80 [ish] will buy him this and a FP-01-02 adaptor for a Pla.

£160 [ish] will buy him this and a FP-01-02 adaptor for a Pla.

Best of luck !
