I'm considering a conversion from the standard GP/AGP/APE steering wheel to an OMP Corsica.

Any tips before starting to think about it? getting rid of the airbag scares me. Might also eventually dump the entire sound system so losing B&M doesn't bother me.

As cool as that wheel looks I just couldn't justify taking what is possibly the most vital airbag out of my car.

I think the standard wheel is nice anyway (I'm on about the sporting leather one, not sure what you have?) so personally I'd keep the original.

But I'm not one to poop anyone's ideas so if you want it do it :p

(most unhelpful answer ever)

I can understand the safety comments but frankly the drivers airbag does little to give me confidence anyway. It's more to do with feel. The standard wheel is pretty poor for fast road and track work.

I regularly drive Elise's and they often don't have airbags. Also frankly doing to job I do you quickly realise that if the crash is that bad then an airbag is not going to save you.

The other option is to get the wheel re-trimmed in a grippier material to see if that helps

edit: the reason the airbag scares is the removal rather than not having one.
