General Steering Lock

Hi guys some little **** tried to pinch my mk 1 punto last night i had the door replaced but the steering is very notchy where they have bust the steering lock .My question is can i remove the steering lock completley so i can drive the car safely until i can get a new steering colum.Thanks any help would be great xx

make sure if they have been pulling on the steering wheel to break the lock that your steering wheel hasnt fractured and could fail on the road
yes drop the lock down would be safest option,the lock is the same on other fiats of this age so should be easy to find a replacement in the scrappies
