Hi all, I have purchased a 2015 Fiat Punto that has hill holder asr fault that keeps coming on every time you drive the car about a few feet. I have the full registered version of mes with various Leeds etc and the only fault it flags up is C0051-29 steering angle sensor, when the wheels are straight it’s showing an angle of 360 degrees when you try to recalibrate it it says “failed to execute”. My question is should this be 0 degrees? and is it possible that the power steering rack has been swapped and the column is 360degrees out? There is evidence that it has been swapped as there is writing on it similar to what you would get on parts from a scrap yard.

Can this cause the hillholder asr to come up if it was that far out? And would this give the mes error of failed to execute?

Any help would be appreciated.

It’s got a brand new battery and brake switch fitted as I have encountered similar faults on other fiats that these resolved but not on this one. Also had tracking done today.

Cheers

Thanks Charlie, not sure if same as GP.

Had to turn steering column 360 degrees and then wind clock spring back 360 to match. Problem solved ?

For anyone who might need some info in the future the steering angle should be set to 0 degrees. All the asr hillholder error lights have now vanished.

It was the column that was not aligned properly, the clock spring does not have a sensor that tells it’s position you have to set that manually to middle so you don’t snap the ribbon cable.
