Hi all, newbie here, hope someone can help before I start tearing my hair out!

My son has a Punto Pop 2015 and wants to install to an aftermarket Apple Car Play radio, he bought one that suggests it is custom made to fit his make and model but it’s not sitting flush.
Customer services have advised that the bracket circled in the picture is the issue. Does anyone know if that bracket is purely there to hold in the factory fitted radio (second pic, left hand item) and can it be removed?

Hi Mikey,

Looking at getting a replacement unit myself, but concerned about the fit as everyone has said they don't fit flush. I've seen a few Indian videos on youtube where they show the installation, but then skip right at the end when they are about to finish installing, to the unit fitted and sitting flush.

Did you manage to find a solution to this?

The thing that confuses me the most from your pics is that the new unit is a lot smaller than the old in your picture, so surely it shouldn't even touch/hit that bit you've circled?

The picture at the top show the aftermarket unit is a lot shorter than the oem radio so really that shouldn’t cause an issue, one thing that I think might cause an issue is there is a subtile difference between LHD and RHD dashboards and so aftermarket radio adaptors sometimes don’t fit if for a LHD car, I wonder if the after market radios are made for LHD cars and therefore won’t sit flush on UK RHD models ?

Worth checking before you buy if it will fit a RHD car

This morning I was blessed! Hopefully this helps others looking for info.

I've stumbled across this youtube video (It's in Italian but it's essentially a step-by-step fitting of an after market unit).

He shows which part of the radio unit/socket needs to be adjust in order to get the correct fit for the radios!

I've also downloaded the video just in case it suddenly becomes unavailable 😅

To update:

tl;dr disclaimer: The above doesn't apply / work for my model (2016 easy 199 69hp)

Excited with finding the above video and the fact Xtrons had a sale, I bit the bullet and got a PX62GPFL, rear view camera with sensors and dab tuner.

Fast forward to yesterday, took the old unit out as well as the frame and tried a dry fit with the new unit... It really just does not fit 100% flush / click in to place. No amount of welly could get the clips to click, I tried placing masking tape and marking parts of the frame to no avail. The unit doesn't reach anywhere near the back of the frame, so we can lay that theory to rest.

I cannot work out what tf it is that's causing it not to sit properly, it's literally like 2mm away from being perfect. Very frustrating!!

Happy with the upgrade overall though and realistically it sits flush enough. Will be pulling it out again today to finish fitting the dab tuner and gps antennas

Hi @MassivePunto , did you ever solve this. I have the same problem! thanks
Hiya mate, unfortunately not. Unit has just been sitting 1cm unflush the entire time. I did actually recently fid the following after some searching one evening, which looks like it could work, but it's bloody expensive for what it is and I feel it's only the silver fascia bit that's actually needed!:

I really wish I knew how to 3d print because I feel like making that part you could make a fair amount!
