Nice way to kill an amp there - amps MUST NEVER BE FITTED UPSIDE DOWN! Amps disipate heat which rises - straight back into the amp, causing overheating and a short amp life.

I'm not gonna go off on one (regulars will know what I mean  ) because I don't want to wreck a potential sale for someone.

i think its different if the amp is actively cooled, ie a fan.

Maybe, but I still would not do it. You'd be asking for trouble. Also, if you're using a fan, it'd normally be in some sort of enclosed amp rack, therefore nothing to gain aesthetically by mounting it upside down.

The cheapness/quality of the amp doesn't come into it. You may not destroy them, but continually tripping it into thermal protection would do them no good whatsoever.

I duno about car audio but I know this, you can mount an amp safely almost anywhere if you give it 2 sides of it to clear space. The trick is to pick the amp with the right type of cooling for the place it's mounted, I've not dealt with car amps so don't know what is available.

The vast majority have the heat sinks on the upper face, therefore if fitted upside down would have the heat sinks pointing towards the floor. I'm sure I've heard of car amps with heatsinks so that you could mount them upside down, but these are so few and far between that I have never seen one compared to the more standard heatsinks on the upper face.
