hi i have a punto mk2 1.2 8v that started playing up with the key code staying on so had 2 do the emergency code to start it.
i then took the keys to get re-coded but the garage said they did not have the chip in them so he said there maybe half a key by the ignition if not its been bypassed.
i got home had a look found a full key (the 1 with the chip) taped onto 2 wires, took key off and tried to start the car but had 2 do the emergency start again and took car around the block. then tried to start it again but the key code is stuck on and it is not letting me do the emergency start any more as engine management lite going off.

any suggestions what i can do??????????????

With the key that was taped up removed - you may need to get 2 new proper fiat keys an code card and see if they can be reprogrammed by the dealer like before.

If its not possible there may be something that needs replacing ie the code reader from the ignition barrel.

hi. i was thinking of getting the blue code key i found but i thought it might not work, as the immobiser button on my clifford alarm does not turn off the key code sign.
basically. i would have so many seconds to turn the car on, then the key code would go off, or if it stays on then i press my immobiser button on the clifford alarm and it would turn the key code off so i turn the car on.
but lately doesnt reconsize the ket and the fob button doesnt turn it off too!!!!!

it all got worse since my partner found this blue key in the car and tooko it off.
i did speak to a dealer and they said something about an aerial or an loop????
does anyone know what they mean? and is it expensive??

the problem im thinking, it is the alarm/ immobiser even though the aalarm and door poppers are working on the fob just not the immobiser to disengage the key code sign, or the key its self, or barrel or something?

im so confused about it all.

All mk2 puntos have thier own imobiliser which is deactivated by putting a correctly coded and matched (to the car) key in the ignition. There is no time limits or procedure to go through to get it to work, simply put the key in the ignition and the code light twill come on for a few seconds then go out.

As your car has a second imobiliser and alarm fitted it gets more complicated as someone has obviously connected it upto the fiat imobiliser system as the key code light light up to tell you that the clifford imobiliser is activated.

Another problem is that the previous owner has taped this key to the back of the ignition. This is usually done when the key is broken (they stick just the blue plastic bit with the imobiliser chip in it) or when the locks have been changed and they tape the old key which disables the imobiliser to the igniton so that the new key will start the car. infact with this method anything will start the car as the imobiliser will always deactivate as the key behind the dash is present.

Personally if it was my car i would deactivate/disconnect the clifford imobiliser and see what happens, it may be interfearing with the fiat one. if there is still a problem it will be more straight forward to detect as there will only be one active imobliser system on the car.
