Right under the intake manifold bolted onto the gearbox you can't miss it

Where about though, I've just got it up on normal jack and still can't find it IMG_20190616_143833.jpeg

Okay so I've found, it but seems far to difficult to get anything there to remove it

Fairly easy. Disconnect battery, disconnect 13 mm starter wire, and 10mm(if there is one)three 13mm bolts, one from gear box side(on top)2 Fromm engine side(underneath) And starter slides out!

Ah I see, yeah that does sound a lot easier than what I was thinking, but still finding it hard to have faith in 1 jack when working under the car. Don't want it fall on me [emoji23]

Get an axle stand, and put the wheel and spare wheel under the car,a wheel is lot easier to replace than your head. But do not be that stupid to work under a car with just a jack, holding the car up!!

Personally id remove the battery tray and battery
As this opens more swinging room for your arm

Iirc therr are 3 bolts
1 goes througu gearbox and other 2 screw into engine

Starter has 2 wires
1 think honkey wire which feeda the power akd the other feeds the solenoid :)

Its a lil fiddly tbh....
Crack the bolts loose with a decent spanner
Then a stubby ratchet will be ur friend

I do it with normal ratchets when i swap gearboxes

No need to have vehicle jacked up

Ziggy

Perhaps this job is different on a 16V car?

I have tried to access the starter from the above but it is just impossible to do the wiring by feel.

Or is there some trick to this job?
No idea tbh, im trying to do it as Ziggy described but seems to be proving difficult since the plastic housing around bolt holding the wires on is preventing me getting them off

Just a quick update, I've done it [emoji846] finally took a long time, did it Ziggy's way so thankyou very much for that. It was rather fiddly and kinda tricky but did get it in the end. So I hope this thread helps anyone else who needs to replace a starter motor on a 1.2 8v Fiat Punto Mk2
