Just found the sound system book that was given out with the car, MENU until you get RDS, then press menu again, you SHOULD get more options, then it's Auto on/off, but as i posted earlier, i'll check mine tomorrow afternoon and post back

Well you can aways resort to a large hammer!!!!!!

This i did and then bought a cheap sterio which did as it was told.

Well i had to turn it on or off all the time.

My factory CD unit doesn't switch on automatically when the engine's started. I have to press the button.

It stays on after I switch the engine off, which from time to time has made me more than a little paranoid about whether it'll switch itself off.

Exactly the same with my CD/Radio. If you want it on or off you have to press the button. Doesn't come on or go off with the ignition. Wouldn't have a clue how i changed it off the top of my head though, as it was like it when i bought the car nearly 4 years ago!

at worst it will turn off after 20 mins.

Mine does this also. If you switch it on with the ignition switched off it'll say '20 minutes mode' on the radio display to let you know it'll go off after 20 mins. If you turn it on with igntion on & then turn ignition off, it just times 20 mins & goes off without warning (y)

Bigger. I just get "clip detect" on or off.....

I've never found Clip Detect in the menu in mine, though some of your other settings like Speed Volume & Traffic come up with one short press of 'Menu' on my stereo. Maybe they added bits to the silver stereos that aren't on the older black ones. Mine's also MP3 compatible (was a factory option) so maybe that alters things

A word of warning though - dunno if it was just whilst you were in the menu's that you changed it, but i saw the Bass was set to 10 - the bass on mine shakes the door cards off on level 4 so this might be why the speakers sound rough on yours! I have Bass & Treble set to level 2, Balance on 0 and Fader on 1 to the front (as one rear speaker started to sound iffy on some tunes). Then i press & hold the long 'Audio' button and (on mine at least) it brings up equalizer options - you can then use the volume knob to scroll through things like Jazz, Rock, Classic, Customer (presumably meaning 'Custom'). I've got that set to Rock, which is already heavy on the bass so allows me to reduce the bass in the actual bass part of the menu, if that makes sence. In mine, that sounds spot on, especially on CDs (y)

OK PEOPLES, I HAVE THE ANSWER!!!

i let me workmate take a look, and he figured it out. Basically, with the key in or out, doesnt matter, turn on stereo, press and hold "menu", then cycle through menu until you find Auto on/off!!
hurrah! before, I was holding menu, getting clip detect, but not pressing menu AGAIN, afterwards!!:bang::slayer:

isnt this what was said right up near the top? lol. :).

glad you got it sorted.

check the guides/faq's for a hidden menu on that stereo. i THINK you turn it on then hold number 4+6 (or 3+6) and it will then cycle through each speaker checking they work :) (you have to push menu to go to the next speaker)

lol, yep, you were right!! im glad, i just knew it couldnt be right that a stereo by default, tunrs on no matter what!!

ill check the the hidden menus too, as it may let me hear the front passenger one a bit better to see what the issue is...or hear what the issue is...!

wow so glad I stumbled across this thread..I was getting really naffed off with having to manually switch my stereo on and off..didn't realise there was a setting to change it all, will go and have a mooch around the menu's later :) its things like this that make me realise I am a dumb blonde after all lol and it will teach me a lesson to read through the bookpack in future!

not so much of a lesson though, I read the manual, it says nothing about how to actually access the hidden menu!! unless of course, i read it wrong, but im pretty sure i didnt!:bang:
