Squeal when at full lock, please help

Hi i had a bit of a search on the forum before asking and couldn't find anything quite describing what my problem is.

When i have the steering wheel right on full lock can hear what sounds like a belt squealing, i'm assuming this would be the PAS belt, does this mean its too tight, too loose or just needs replacing??

it will be the powersteering pump squeeling? not the belt i wodl have thought? with powersteering when you get to full lock if you hold the steeering wheel against full lock you are effectively tryign to make the pump work when it cant physically turn the wheels anymore?

Allan is right on this 1...

With PAS you should never hold it on full lock. You are putting the pump under emence strain as it can't pump the oil anywhere!


If you need to turn sharply, turn to full lock then just back it off slightly...


Your better taking a few moments longer turning then fitting a new PAS pump which cost insidently about £300 from Fiat just for the part!!!


Saying that it could be the belt... but it'd do it all the time, not just on full lock.
