Hi guys,

Getting my Bravo looked at on Wednesday just looking for a heads up here. I get a very loud squeal on cold starts that lasts up to a minute but usually disappears completely after 20 seconds. The only thing I can liken it to is a belt squeal and it is very loud, a few points:

- Sounds like the noise is coming from the opposite side of the bay to the timing and aux belts, but is hard to pinpoint

- Frequency of the squeal increases with revs

- Just a resting foot on the clutch pedal will make the noise disappear completely

- However! Had a new clutch (LUK kit) fitted less than 10,000 miles ago

Popped down the garage this morning and first thing suggested was release bearing, but that would give the opposite effect no? It's more of a squeal than the whurr you get when the clutch is on the way out, and as I say only happens on cold starts.

What's the first port of call... change gearbox oil? Could be some lubricant lacking on cold starts? Anyone else had similar issues?

Gonna be a problem taking it in when everything is warm and I can't replicate the noise! :)

If not the fan belt, could be the tensioners.mine did same for ages till i changed the aux adjustable tensioner :)

Cheers guys, does sound like a belt squeal but if it was the aux belt it wouldn't go away with the clutch pedal pushed in right?

Took it to Palmer & Phillips (local fiat/alfa specialists) and with the description they said it's most likely the clutch release bearing, but couldn't replicate the noise with everything warm unfortunately! Find it hard to fathom considering how few miles I've done but if it is the clutch at least it'll get resolved under warranty! Gonna leave it for a while and see if it gets any worse

just re read and with you saying the noise goes away with the clutch pressed you could be right about the bearing.
had a similar problem on another car,we inspected it and the release bearing just fell off in my hand.A new clutch was on order, BUT you can buy them seperatly.

does it click/tap when pedal down ? if so, it is the release bearing..not to expensive to replace but such an annoying job!, luckily when i replaced mine my clutch needed doing, the 2 days of changing the clutch didnt seem all that bad!
