MG,

I reckon the squeaking is caused by your new pads bedding in (some makes seem worse than others). They create alot of brakedust for the first few hundred miles, hence the squeaking.

The last front disc pads I had fitted squeaked for ages. I'd done 1800 mls before they finally stopped squealing altogether. Perhaps having new discs at the same time as the pads didn't help, but the brakes are fine now.

You're dead right about the embarassment though. Everytime someone was in my car the noise was such that I had to explain they were bedding in, rather than wearing out!

Hope things improve for you. Where brakes are concerned silence really is golden.
