My reverse gear has always been a bit fiddly to find and now 1st is getting notchy. But even more worrying is now my 3rd gear, actually going into gear is fine at slow speeds - really smooth. However if im joining a motorway or dual carriageway and accelerating, with more than 3k+ revs it just grinnnnnnds when I try to change from 2nd to 3rd (until the revs drop).

What could this be? Synchromesh?

I'm double clutching or missing out 3rd at the moment - but shouldnt have to :(

I should be able to get this fixed under 3rd year warrenty?

mine does that to! drives me nuts. Its stopped doing it recently, but some times it comes up again. it comes up if i join a motorway doing about 4,000-4,500 RPM. Will to watching this thread for the answer. Mine is an 08 on 15k

From there point of view its 3yr old. For all they know despite the low mileage it has been hammered on every gear change for 3yrs so this isnt a wear and tear item and Fiat wont authorise a repair/replacement on it unless it can be proved otherwise.

But how would I prove it otherwise? Is there a way to reset the ECU or whatever records engine use so they have nothing to argue with?
The car isnt hammered but I know what large companies are like when it comes to warranty.. as I work for one
It was also bought second hand with 9k on the clock so as much as I like to think it was treated as well as I treat it - It cant be guaranteed :(
