Technical Speedo troubles

Hi guys,
I've just signed up to this forum as I'm new to Fiats!!! I've just been given a nice little Seicento but it had two faults. One was a leaky radiator and one was a faulty speedo.
After a little research (mainly on here) the rad was swapped. There are certainly some very helpful guides and advice.
So my problem is now the speedo, which as far as I'm aware needs to be working for the MOT. I've replaced the sender on the gearbox. That didnt seem to solve the problem so I bought a second hand instrument cluster and fitted that, thinking that the dial itself was possibly damaged. That didnt solve the problem either!!

Does anyone have any other ideas as to what could be causing the problem?
Does the speedo have its own separate fuse? Everything else seems to be working ok.

Have you checked the gearbox oil level?

No. How would that be related to the problem?

If the box is dry and the diff has dropped it wont register on the sender.

side note.. you dont need a speedo for an MOT, had a cinq that had no speedo for about 5 years and it never failed an MOT
