Hi I am having dome problems with my bravo 1.2 speedo. It does not move off 0. The other dials (rev meter) etc all apprear to work fine ( does this rule out a loose connection behind the dials I saw a previous thread on this problem). Other threads refer to the cable and sender unit. I have removed the sender unit from the gear box and can see no obvious problems (I might just replace it to emlimate it. Does the speedo cable connector at the sender unit end give trouble, the connector appears to be in two bits as the end can be moved within the housing.

Any help would be much appreciated.

well done reading the other threads before posting (y)
what a refreshing change!!

as you said, if its only the speedo that isnt working id attack this problem from the gearbox end first.

theres a good guide on fiatboo describing the repair procedure for the instrument panel if replacing the sender unit fails to cure the problem.

Thanks for the pointer,

I have the Haynes manual and have tried to locate the speedo sender unit, but Im not too sure if I got it. can anybody confirm from the pictures attached if this is the unit. It seems very awkward to remove.

Graet is it difficult to remove, the haynes manula refers to an allen key lock nut (cant see this) there appears to a large-ish bolt head/nut bellow the top of the canbel connector.
Any ideas

yup thats the kiddie as Jug says

the easiest way of getting it off is removing the gearbox mount that souronds it and bolts to the sub fram as you cant get the 22mm spanner in you need to (iirc its 22mm) or how about a 22mm socket on a long extension bar?

Disaster.....
A bit of the speedo sensor manage to break off on removal and is in the transmision housing. Anybody got any ideas on how to get it out, If I leave it in there it will probably cause the gears to jump or will they just break it up....

errr iirc the speedo sensore bolts directly above the differential unit, or does it run off the gears them selves... damn it i cant rember... if it does run of the diff then the job has just become a million times easier. the diff can be removed alot simpler than a gearbox removal, you will need to detatch the drevie shafts and then remove the 8 bolts i think and the diff comes off the bottom of the box. there are no removal or loose parts in a diff so shgould be easy to locate the part of the speedo sensor.

if you can get a picture from underneath the car looking at where the speedo sensor bolts in from where the gearbox mount sits i will be able to confirm wether the sensor fits into the diff, failing that, i will see if i get the time at work to g nad have a nosey around patch later on for you mate

whoops! :(

i think andy will be right, the speedo is driven by the diff, and on the 1.2 thats good news.

although if it was only a little bit of plastic that broke off it probably wont hurt anything.

Cheers guys,

The piece was small and hollow and fairly brittle so I left it in there, doesnt seem to be a problem, I drained the oil to see if the piece had got chewed up and broken, but the oil was clean.

thanks for all the help
