Technical  Speedo cables

Cheers ming, I had ordered one from s4p then they emailed back saying it'd be 3 odd weeks from Italy, tried euro car care and they said the same (both said in stock or 2-3 days on their websites). Didn't know about the code, though :)

Slugworth, I'll deffo have that off you please, just trying to sort my PP out atm, I can't transfer any funds into it :bang: going to ask someone at work to transfer a tenner to me if I give them the note (I already have a few quid in there).

Right, got the cable yesterday (ta slugworth), hammerite'd the hole it feeds through and fitted today.

Went for a test - speedo works :slayer:

But... it seems a bit slow?
Opened up the same GPS speedo app from before.

Speedo 30 = GPS 25mph
40 = 33mph
50 = 42mph
Popped a set of 899 clocks in from the garage - same massive over read (n)
The needle on both sets isn't wobbling, which would indicate the cable slipping.

Checked the app against the speedo in a 899 Cinq - indicates ~10% over read (30mph = 27-28), around normal.

It was all fine before the cable snapped, the new one can't be gearing down surely, but I'm not sure how the gearbox could have suffered either seen as it's been sitting on the drive :confused:

Aha solved, or maybe a fix on the way - it turns out if the cable is pushing into the back of the clocks (not just sitting in there) it causes the speedo to over read more than usual - I put a section of the old cable into the chuck of a drill and used it to run the speedo, and then added pressure while keeping the speed the same.

If I have this much of the inner cable poking out do I need to route it differently? I'm tempted to just chop a bit off the end and see how I get on.

Are the wheels the stock 13''?

If they are bigger or aftermarket its going to slightly overread anyway as the wheel is turning more

Yeah, 13s with the standard size tyres too. Like I said, it was 10% over before, which is about standard. afaik the only thing changed since it broke is the cable.

At least it's over, not under, I'm just about ready to give up and leave it as is for now.
