General Spare key!

Quick question. After my '05 1.4 Stilo had it's life cruely shortened by a nutter crashing into the side of me, I got an '06 1.7/1.8 Stilo Sporting last weekend at a good price.

Only downside being the lack of a spare key. Can Timpsons or similar programme the chips in them, just for a basic spare key? I know they can for other makes & models. Had a look on the forum and in general but seem to be getting mixed messages...

Save me a trip into town to find out if anyone knows

A spare key must have its transponder programed to the car or the car immobilizer will prevent the car from starting.

Timpsons cannot program the key to the car, it can only be done by Fiat.

The buttons that open and close the doors etc. on the spare key can be programed to the car using FES(http://www.fiatecuscan.net).

Thanks for the help. Think I'm going to take a walk through town as some places are saying they can copy the chips but they'd have to take a look at it. Probably a waste of time but worth a shot if I don't have to pay £100+ for a basic spare key....

the secret code which is stored in the transponder can't be read nor copied after it's programmed.
The key ID number can be read but that does not start the car....
Only way is reading the eeprom contents of the body computer and use this file to preprogram a blank ID48 transponder with the correct tools....

You're right - Timpsons can do it (only at certain branches) but they have to do it the same way a FIAT garage would. When he put the key on the machine it said 'locked'.

Will let you know if it's any cheaper when I go to the right branch at the weekend!
