We are in the process of replacing my wife’s trusty 2010 1.2 pop which we had from new with a June 2019 lounge. Whilst in many respects the new car is better specified and we are looking forward to its advances I am not enamoured with the backward step of dispensing with the space saver spare wheel and toolkit in favour of a can of spray filler - definitely a backward step. From reading other threads it would appear that although the new car will have 15inch alloys we can use a 14 inch space saver and second hand ones are reasonably priced on E Bay. Am I missing anything?

I did the same, 2nd hand kit from a Punto, wheel, toolkit and the plastic tool insert. Just make sure you get the same size wheel (135/80 x 14") that your old car has. (There are also 13" wheels around, e.g, for Pandas).
"Used" kits tend to be unused but may be just old. Some people get worried about that but, hey, it's for emergency use only, not the whole holiday trip. Keep the compressor from your new emergency kit on board, then you don't need to check spare wheel pressure all the time, which is a bit awkward.

I'd agree. You can find plenty of space-savers out there but measure the size of the wheel and tyre to make sure the diameter of the wheel/tyre combination is as similar as possible to your regular 15" alloys.

I've seen 15" s/s wheels out there .. but as you say, the 14" with the correct size tyre on it would do the same job.

Make sure that your spare wheel fits using the wheel bolts supplied with your alloys though. If the spare wheel came with the car, then it would have a spacer plate (if required) welded to the back of it to give the correct offset and wheel bolt length ... but a random wheel from a similar but not *actual* same model might have a different offset and the bolts might protrude too far out the back.

The wrong offset isn't too severe, since you won't notice it (a few millimeters one way or the other) but "too-long" bolts sticking out the back of the spare wheel would pass through the hub and potentially jam on something. You'd need to pack some shorter bolts, to use with the spare wheel, if you couldn't find a perfectly sized spare wheel.

Shouldn't be a problem with a 500 they have one had one sized wheel range 14-16" and one sized space saver

If it's bolts from the standard alloys, then no problem. Those bolts also fit the steel rims of the winter tires. (22mm iirc)" which are as thin as the s/s wheel. Offset is managed by the shape of the rim and probably not relevant in any case.
Key is that the s/s wheel fits in the boot which the 135/80r14 does.

Thank you everyone for the very useful replies. Have ordered a secondhand 14 inch space saver wheel and kit from E bay of the correct profile. Have enjoyed actively participating in the forum after a gap of about 9 years. That I have not been here more regularly reflects the good reliability of our 2010 pop. If the new to us lounge is as reliable as its predecessor we will be very happy.
