I am using 12" explodes and have had no problems and am very satisfied with them - bound to have some on here run them down :( but have been running them for 3 yrs and they have not missed a beat.
Would honestly look at whether you need a 15" though 10 to 12 suits most peoples music tastes.

Steve

ive got one of these mate.never had a problem with it and it has got big bass with it.if your planning on going really bassy at a later stage, may be worth getting something thats 800-900 watt rms.sonys good tho(y)

You just want the sub and box? What amp is going to be powering this? And what kind of music do you listen to?

15" subs give nice low bass with very little punch, 12" will give a nice balance between punch and low notes. And 10's will be punchy but not too good on the low frequncies.

Why 12's generally tend to be the best bet for most people.

Would help to know these things before recommending something to you so can be better matched to the amplifier. I dont rate Sony gear at all though to be hoenst. Unless its there older stuff this Xplod stuff is crap and most people will say the same who know there audio gear.

As the saying goes you get what you pay for though.

Got to agree with wozza, the Xplod audio is at the budget end of the market and you get what you pay for.

On the other hand though, I've just bought a pair of Fly 12" subs and some 6" Fly front door speakers (made by Vibe) and they sound the nuts! Quality kit at reasonable prices.

I listen to hip hop drum and bass bla bla bla.. chavtastic music if you like. So I want loud thumping if that makes sense... Would be happy with either 12" or 15" :slayer:

Don't have a clue what amp would be running it all.. I don't know too much about the ice side!
Thanks

Sony's speakers are the weakest part of their range. HUs are OK, amps are a bit better again IMO (I got one, one of the first Xplod amps made I think - 25 quid off a mate :D) Personally, I'd avoid their subs and anything with a prefabricated enclosure; chances are the enclosure will either be the wrong volume or just not strong enough (IMO). I reckon you should have a look at either FLI or JBL gear. I personally would go for JBL, but you wouldn't go far wrong with FLI either. Not much else in the same price range comes close IMO :)

With your taste in music get the 12 a 15 would not sound as nice you want somethign that can respond faster with hiphop and also with that taste of music id reccommend putting it in a ported enclosure over a sealed one. Will allow the notes in the DnB to sound nicer.

Although cheap subs give rather dull bass in all fairness but JBL cheapy's are pretty god for the money.

Yeah, budget JBL gear punches well above its weight :)

I've got an American Pro 12" sub(600w IIRC) in a matching box that goes low and hard if you're interested... The only reason I'm not using it anymore is because I decided I wanted a matching pair and with this particular sub not in production anymore,I bought the Fli set-up...
