Sony CDX MP40 head unit problem

Every so often, my Sony head unit 'freezes'. The radio doesn't work, but the CD does. The only way to get it working again is to press the reset button and lose all my stored stations, EQ settings etc. Gets a bit annoying after the first two or three times it happens.

Any ideas what could be causing this? A spike or something??

can you take it back as they usually just swap it for a new one

I very much doubt as the unit is of unkown vintage It came out of my previous car and was in it when I bought it.

I've not got it in the Punto yet so I don't actually know if it was perhaps a weird spike or something from the previous car that was doing it.

how did you reset yours? my oem bravo hu does the same thing. it reacts slow to buttons, and no radio.

On the Sony head unit, you remove the faceplate and there's a little recessed white button you need to press with something thin.

you wont be able to fix it, they just go like that and even if its was new sony are very reluctant to help you. Ive had trouble with loads of sony stuff and had loads of problems.,
