Precisely!!!!what puts me off the (new) mini is that it doesn't seem have any proper character or charm (like the old mini), its driven by stuck up so & so's and most importantly its GERMAN

Sounds like a lot of 500 drivers around here!
possibly not the right forum to say something like that?
At the end of the day you've only bought a 500. You showed up at the dealership, specced up your car and handed over the cash or signed a finance agreement. It's not some exlcusive or anything.
Er, I don't remeber anyone claiming they were "exclusive" (not exlcusive).
and you then come on slagging off 500 owners, like you said, pot, kettle, black!!!!!
YOU LOOSE & I WIN
My point is people are acting like it's some sort of exclusive club and talking about sniggering at Mini owners.
Yea, that would be me who started the thread....to a degree I do feel exclusive at the mo cos I've only seen two other 500's on the road in Plymouth. To me that's pretty exclusive !
Also I love sniggering at mini owners cos I can

its the 500 section of the fiat forum. no one has gone over to the bigi forums and insulted them.
a post like that to 500 owners on their own forum could be seen as trolling
but bigi drivers think they have some thing that they havent, even real mini owners dont like it when they show up at mini events.
500 drivers have more to be proud of, they are driving an icon of italian motoring that has been going strong for decades.
and again they can say what they like about bigi owners on their own section as there is nothing in the forum rules against it.
but there is a rule for slating members here on here
sorry but 306maxi is so far in the right here its untrue, double standards being shown makes me giggle
p.s. i see lots of legacys about, but then living near prodrive helps
not slating members, defending the bigi and using comments made about the bigi and showing how they can also apply to the 500.
Oh come on. The new 500 is not really that much like the old one. My dad has a 60's 500 sitting in his garage fully restored so I believe I'm qualified to comment on that. The engine is in the wrong place and it's FWD which the original wasn't.
I mean the Mini is at least front engined and FWD like the old one. Yes it's bigger but so is the 500 as well.
The 500 is a great little car but don't use the "The Mini is nothing like the old Mini" defence because the 500 is just as bad an offender in that sense. I tried to convince my dad to take a test drive in the 500 because I think it's a nice car but he refuses to on the grounds that it's not a proper 500.
ffs the 500 has been in production for decades, it went from round to square and now back to round again. but has always been made by fiat.
the bigi is just a name been used by a totally different manufacturer
I must admit I'm not much of a Subaru fan but I have a soft spot for legacy's. The turbo is such an unassuming car other than the little intercooler scoop and tiny rear spoiler yet it goes like stink. I'm going to try and convince the g/f to take the Subaru off the road and get her a little runaround (500 perhaps? ) and do a bit of restoration work and turn it into a trackday car for us to both enjoy.
Listen you've taken this thread off topic. I'm just saying that people should treat people how they would like to be treated. My girlfriend likes 2cv's. If Citroen bring a 2cv remake out in a few years should she go around sniggering at 500 owners because their cars are so common and are not the same as the original while she goes around driving in her 2cv which isn't a deathtrap in a crash, drives properly in crosswinds and so on?
At the end of the day if the British car industry wasn't so crap and weighed down by unions in the 70's and 80's then the Mini would be made in Britain. I don't blame the owners for that.
The Cinquecento isn't a 500 anyway. It has the same name when translated in Italian but it's about as much a 500 as a Peugeot 407 is a 406 which is a 405 which is a 404 which is a 403. It's merely a naming convention. Doesn't mean the cars are the same. A mini is a mini and a 500 is a 500.
