Imagine my delight this morning when I pulled up at the garage to fill the car with fuel to find smoke pouring out from underneath it!

The garage is only a mile from home so the engine was still pretty cold, so I suspect that I may have stopped the car in the middle of the warming up process, resulting in the smoke episode.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?

Hi Rich

A new one on me - our garage is only a short walk away as well ;) , plus the car tends to get used on local school runs. BUT I have never experienced smoking before....

Have you recently topped the car up with oil?

This is normal from my experience, when I switch the boat heater off mid cycle (same type of heater but air warm not water heating), if I switch it back on I get a lot of smoke coming out. I think it is the unburnt fuel in the system from when the system goes into cool down cycle. You can download the manual from the Webasto site in the US.

If it doesn't swith on and complete the cycle three times in the row, it locks out and needs a factory reset.

I think ours has done the same as well.
I think the heat exchanger gives off a lot of water vapour as mist when it's first run up. You don't notice if your driving but can see it when you stop.
After the cars been running a while it's less noticable.
