Technical Slight loss of power

I've got a lovely 1995 punto cabriolet elx 1.6.
very slight judder on power and gas pedal intermittent.

Took it to Kwik Fit after hearing a bit of a rattle when I just come off the gas, and not surprisingly they said Cat needed replacing. Well they would wouldn't they at £200 a go.

Tank had gone to zero empty a week before this started happening and STP did the trick for a while....Assuming it's not the CAT (Mot passed two weeks ago), and bright ideas?

Can you explain symtoms a bit more. And did they say what was wrong with the CAT?

They hit it a few times and said the CAT was broken inside....
