Hi All,

I have a 2006 Ducato (2nd Generation). The side sliding door doesn't appear to operate in internal light when the door is opened. Is it supposed to?

I have a door switch, but not sure if that is for the alarm? It has a black and pink wire attached to it.

The vehicle has been converted to a camper, so unsure if it's supposed to have one or not. It's a pain getting into it at night with no light :)

Unfortunately the simple answer is NO. The sliding door switch does not operate the courtesy lights.

Please see the eLearn diagram linked to below. eLearn is full of errors and omissions, and a failure to mention the sliding door contact is an example.

Refering to the linked diagram, I suggest that the switch in question is that at the bottom LH corner labelled I015. This switch has wire colours, matching those in the photo attached above.

Digging deeper, I did find the following in my copy of eLearn, but the rear courtesy lights will have been removed during the PVC process.

"When sliding side door I105 is opened, the door closes pin 3, connector C of control panel E050 to earth to control activation of a warning light on the control panel. Control panel H090 receives the same signal at pin 11 of connector D and controls activation of courtesy light G011 and G012.
Control panel H090 receives information that one of the double-doors is open at pin 10 of connector D and therefore controls activation of rear courtesy light G041.
The power supply to the control panel comes directly from the battery and the line is protected by fuse F01, located in engine bay junction unit B001, and fuse F39, located in underfacia junction unit B002."

The only thing I would add is that the metal wire connectors in your picture are lightly corroded, suggesting that they have sat in a humid atmosphere for some time. This in turn may mean that the switch internals have suffered the same fate, and are not making proper contact when the plunger is out, i.e. the door is open.

I suggest you remove the switch from the wiring and test it separately with an ohmmeter or battery and test lamp. You could also try cleaning up and temporarily joining (shorting) together the wire connectors, to simulate an open door.

Perhaps I should have emphasised that the courtesy lights G011, and G012 reffered to above, are the load compartment lights of the original van.

The eLearn wiring diagram E2510 linked to previously, suggests that opening the sliding door should with the ignition ON, illuminate the door open warning LED, on the instrument panel. This does not happen on my vehicle, but if it does it will confirm that the door switch is functional, and the wiring is intact.
( On my vehicle the wiring was butchered at the conversion stage, when an aftermarket alarm was installed. I suspect that the missing warning may be due to this work.)
