I think we should have a maximum sig size, say a maximum height and width, like they do on some forums.

I dont mean to be a kill joy or anything, but peoples sigs are getting sooooo massive that its getting hard to read some threads and soon we are going to be getting one reply per page!

What do you reckon Ben?

Why are they so annoying to you Sammi ?

I don't mind them at all, but I do get fed up with being asked to make them

What is a reasonable sig size then ? When I make the animated Gifs I always try to keep the file size as low as possible for the animation involved. I do feel for those guys on lower connection speeds, but surely there aren't many and like has been said, they can be turned off....

Is there no possibilty of an option that only displays Sigs that are under a certain size for those that want to see them ?

Can someone please come up with some rules and regulations on signatures, as nothing is going to get done if we keep talking about it.

Something like 80kb image and 550pixels wide and 200-250pixels high.

I think signatures give a personality of the person posting and makes it abit more interesting at work.

People are bound to change back to there old signatures if there are no regulations on what they can and cant do

Ok, heres my suggestion:

80kb file size and/or 550 pixels wide and 150 pixels high (including everything else, text, quotes whatever..)

This is much higher than most other forums, i cant see why we shouldnt have a limit set!

well some people did remove them for a short while and then sneaked them back on thinking we hadnt noticed

If that's aimed at me can I just explain that I accidentally deleted the non animated one which will be replaced shortly!

It's pretty sad to have to resort to this sort of thing. Lets just have a plain black and white forum with no character whatsoever shall we.

I'm an artistic person and I like to see people expressing themselves with something like sigs. Surely it's flattering that someone would create something purely to show on the forum. To me when someone makes a sig specifically for a forum it's like they are saying, OK this is my home now, this is where my friends are and i'll take the time to do something special, and then all you get is this

its not the artistic expression that people have a problem with, its the size that some people feel they have to do it.

Which has already been said! I think the point Koa was trying to make earlier is that it should be up to the individual whether or not they wish to view sigs or not.

Just thats an all or nothing option. I like seeing alot of the sigs, but some are way OTT and take ages to load when they're not coming from cache :( With the restrictions, you can enjoy the creativity thats just kept in reason :) Majority is ok, its just some dont know when to stop.

My opinion....

I think koa's sigs are great.

I also think having 20 signatures on a page of 200kb-500kb could mean pages of 5mb+, which on my 300kbps home connection could mean what, download times of a page of 3mins +. Obviously, we're not there yet, but even a few signatures of 200kb on a page for a dialup user could mean 5 mins+ download time which isn't any good. I personally like signatures, it's an instant indication of who the author of the post is and often can be amusing, so in that way, I don't have much of a choice.

Technology is moving on and we are still using the same attitude to sigs that was around when the internet started. The option to turn them off for those that do have problems with bad connections surely is sufficient. Excuse my spelling if it's bad as I used all of my brains for Art instead of English :D

This may sound silly but by taking my sig off I already feel like i'm becoming detached from the forum that I felt a part of.
