Hi all,

I had some gmax <40mm springs fitted a week ago, and in the box was a piece of paper that said "you must shorten original bumpstops by 20mm minimum".

I phoned the garage the other day when I found the piece of paper and he said he had not seen it, so bring it in today and he would shorten them.

I took it in and he says "theyre only on the front so its just the front ones that need doing"

An hour later he phones me to say its ready. I took the car but when I got home I noticed the front wheel trims are still cable-tied on (havnt got my alloys yet )

Surely he must have had to remove the wheel trims to get the wheels off? Last week when the springs were fitted, the cable ties were only missing off one wheel, yet all the springs has been fitted, so I figured he must have re-tied them.

So I just phoned him up and asked him how he got the wheels off without taking the cable ties off- and he said "I did take them off and then put them back on"

I get the feeling hes lying and he hasnt even shortened them- whereabouts are the actual bumpstops and is there anyway for me to check if theyve been shortened? Also is it true that only the front ones need doing? I didnt think any needed doing if its only a 40mm drop.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice

Cheers

i dont know for puntos with regards to what drop they need cutting for. My cinq was meant to be dropped 40mm (it fell 60mm!) and when that was done, we cut the bumpstop in half

The bump stop sits at the top of the suspension, around the strut. It should be easy to see if it has been trimmed or not. I think its hard/impossible to do without taking the wheels off

Thanks for replies guys, I had to have a front tire repaired today so I asked the guy who did it if I could have a quick look while it was jacked up, I could see a ribbed rubber sleve above the spring that looked dirty but clean around the top where it necked, as if someone had been touching it, and it had a small vertical slit at the top as if someone had cut into it.

Hope this makes sense, but from what I gathered if that is the bumpstop, it does indeed look like its been shortened. If Id have been on the ball I would have put the torch on it and took a pic with my phone but what the hey :)

Cheers
