Hi Guys,

My GMAX 35mm lowering springs arrived this morning with a note saying i must shorten the Bump stops atleast 20mm, I have a few queries.

First of all, My old man is going to fit my springs as he has all the equipment, but even he doesn't know how to do it? I know it's top stop the springs bottoming out.

So questions:
1. Is it essential that i shorten them? Could i get away with skipping that part?
2. How would i go about it, and what precautions should i take?

Many Thanks guys:)

Do it. The danger is that the spring compresses under cornering, you hit a bump and the spring fully compresses. At that point the suspension suddenly goes rigid, that corner looses traction, you loose it and fly off the road.

Just remove the bumpstop and cut 25mm off the bottom -- ideally in a lathe. Popping in a freezer beforehand for a few hours may help.

whilst i agree with fingers in principle
i dont understand the lathe bit
why not drizzle in oil or water and cut with a hacksaw
