Hello,

I had a Fiat Seicento Sporting 1.1 in Yellow (nice), which was leased to me by Enterprise after my daily car was written off.

I had the displeasure of driving it for a week, and it was a squeeze being 6'5".

In that week, the car:

1) Lost 3rd Gear
2) Occasionally lost 4th Gear
3) Ran out of petrol due to gauge being faulty
4) Used loads of fuel, despite being slow as a tortoise
5) Was generally rubbish

Why do people buy these cars?!

What went wrong?

With it being a lease car i'd imagain it had a very hard life the poor thing :( And probably skimped on maintainence etc too from the sounds of it!

They're not actually that bad (heck i've had 5 of the things! - well 1 seicento 4 cinqs :p) and are great fun to drive when on full song and possibly lowered so you get the gokart feel/handling

Edit: Welcome to the forum too (y)

I think its harsh to evaluate a hire car to compare it to the average privately owned machine. Last Year my dads car went in for service and he got given a new mk 5 golf tdi, it only had 6,000 miles on the clock. In that week it lost 3rd gear, had ludicrously bad fuel consumption, was dog slow, the drivers seatbelt locked overnight, deeming the car undrivable, and people say Volkwagens are well made!!

On a different note i've got a 2001 seicento sporting and i'm pleased to say in just over 3 years its never let me down once, never even missed a beat which even for well looked after cento's is pretty rare i have to say, started everymorning, and apart from upgrades and an incident with a deer earlier last year the only thing which has needed replacing is the battery and the electric fan motor!

Enterprise never look after their cars. trust me. our dealership made the mistake of buying in a Fiesta and Mondeo from them. One came not as described (petrol instead of diesel!!!) and they were blatantly thrashed and not maintained. Took a lot of rectifying!!!

Im sorry but what a completely obnoxious and ill judged post for a first one. Lets hope they improve, otherwise i suggest you go and muck out those 350 horses.

My first little fiat was a Panda 4x4 Sisley, loved it, then had a cinquecento s, loved it, went through a succesion of other cars, ford focus, ford puma, volvo 480, saab turbo, ford escort, and now im back to smiling whilst driving again in a cinquecento sporting.

I was provided a hire car whilst in southern ireland, did 1400 miles in a week, and virtually everywhere on the limiter, left foot braking, just generally thrashing it, boiled the brake fluid, and overheated the tyres so they went a lovely shade of blue, so after a few more people like me, that will probably drive as badly as your hire car did.

It's called 'character', something which sadly didn't seem to rub off on you.

A Seicento is always going to feel slow and cheap after a coupe. Perhaps that's why they were 1/4 of the Coupe's price when new :)

Did you really expect a favourable response posting that?

Judging by your username coming from a 350bhp car down to a 54bhp car it is going to feel slow.

We love our centos and we probably dont have the cost elements you enquire on your 350bhp machine.....ex 350bhp machine.

We would probably get 4/5 services for what it costs for a cambelt change in a coop

I'm guessing he still has the coupe.. especially since he said it was his daily car that was written off - a 350bhp coupe is not a daily drive unless you have deep pockets!

As they have said hire cars lead a very hard life. The only exception I've known was our F reg tipo which was originally a hire car on Jersey - never exceeding 30mph!

Ok, maybe you guys didn't understand my humour, in a similar way to how you thought I didn't 'get' the character.

I must admit, despite being too small (for me), it was a fun car to throw around.

But the reliability was shocking, although as many have said, and I know, rental cars aren't exactly unabused.

Sorry for offending the cinq and seicento lovers!! :worship:

On the reliability front, it's italian, great fun when they work!!!! Hence us saying fiat stands for "fixing it again tomorrow!"

They are extremely reliable if you take very good care of them. Ours is slowly dying as a result of 9 years of abuse! We seem to be the only people to look after it, and what was a good buy a year ago is now rapidly becoming a money pit.

Some people like big cars, some like little cars! It's all a matter of taste.

Jon+Em

oh and if you were trying to be humerous then perhaps saying "why do people buy these cars?" was a tad insensetive when posting in the cento section of the forum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wouldn't worry everywhere i go i get ripped into, i just laugh especially when saxos an clio's ect think they can have you at the lights then they realise you are right next to them all the way LOL:devil:
