wel the internet is not alot of use in terms of researching this has anyone fitted an 866 camshaft to a 1.1i engine before?? the the shims control how far the valves open and close, obviously the canshafe giving higher lift more gas will need to enter or escape through from the valves possibly meaningthe shims wont allow this.....

thats the general idea im gettin from what ive found.

can anyone set me straight??

can no one help me on this?? I dont want to fit it and it end up killing my engine :(
 
The only things the shims are for to keep the valve clearances correct which should be for the 866 cam
0.35-0.45 on the inlet
0.40-0.50 on the exhaust.

i take it thats mm? and so long as its any where between those two it will be fine yes?
 
Sorry, yes it is mm and if you can stay within the tolerances you are okay. When changing the shims or cam you should run the engine for the first 20 minutes at 2000 or more rpm.
 
can tighten the throttle cable to ake it do that cant i! not looked in my haynes yet bot how does one measure the tolerence? and if the tolerence is within these with the new shaft fitted there will be nothing else needed to be changed. and i get more torque s in theory faster acelleration or pick up speed.
 
you measure the tolerances by using slip gauges - thin bits of metal, you try the lower end of the tolerance, then the larger end. one should go, and the other should not go, this means that they are within tolerance.

if you dont fancy doing this yourself, i was told that itwould cost about £50 to have someone do it for you.

and yes, after this is done, assuming that the rocker cover gasket is in good nick (probably not, about £5 plus sealant) then job done, hopefully you will feel some difference, although it wont be huge.
