My HLX is beginning to sound louder than normal, a bit like a diesel/tractor (ever so slightly), I think she might just be due a service so I've bought new Selenia 20k engine oil, gearbox oil, antifreeze so the coolant can be changed, oil filter, fuel filter, cabin filters, NGK iridium spark plugs (cost a bomb but are supposed to be the dogs), my braking system was upgraded recently so the brake and clutch fluid was changed very recently.
Apart from all that is there anything I can do to help her?

Also she never starts first time anymore :(
I posted up my problem a while back explaining that the Dastek was causing here to run too rich but it's getting a bit ridiculous of late, I had to be jumped the other day because she refused to start all together, just kept on turning over and loud banging coming from the exhaust! So embarassing!
Do you think Dastek will fix it for free?!

Nah I was silly, I left it and left it due to exams and other commitments so I have a feeling they might be a bit funny about sorting it out now.

Tom...have you any idea what the capacity of the power steering fluid reservoir is? It's not listed in the haynes and I'd like to change this too.

0.9 litres I think Danny

ps
whats a quart of fluid (american term i think)?
Is it a pint?

Cheers Nico, it's a quarter of a litre (i.e. 250ml/cl)

answers his own as usual

mmm I just looked it up in a dictionary
=2pts
US
1 quart = 0.9 litres
UK
1 quart = 1.1 litres

Re: answers his own as usual

Fair enough! lol

Is that anything to do with the power steering fluid?!

Re: answers his own as usual

No Dan. I'm just hi-jacking threads again ;)

Re: answers his own as usual

Thanks mate :) So do I need 0.9L or 1.1L of the stuff?!

Re: answers his own as usual

I would do everthing you plan to, also do an engine flush BUT DONT use proper engine flush, just fill her up with oil do about 2k in her with the old oil filter then change oil again for fresh stuff and put the new filter on. i know its alot of hassel but it helps clear some of the **** out oil ways etc...

how long has the filter been on there?

you could also put a new oil filter on there?

P.S. still waiting on the pictures?

Re: answers his own as usual

Hey mate, so you're saying I should change all of the oil twice?! Thats going to cost me for another engines worth of selinia 20k... :(

The oil filter hasn't been changed in at least a year...terrible really.

I got a new one on it's way, I got all of this, all official stuff from www.shop4parts.co.uk

-Oil Filter
-Fuel Filter
-Cabin (pollen) Filters
-Selinia 20k engine oil
-Gearbox oil
-Power Steering Fluid
-Antifreeze (coolant will be changed)
-Brake & clutch fluid done about 1k miles ago
-NGK iridium spark plugs (£7 each!!!)

Nothing else I can think of really, the air filter in my BMC CDA is fine as it's pretty new so if you got any suggestions please let me know.

My friend at uni is at home at the moment as he's finished his exams so I haven't been able to use his digicam, he's back some time this week so I'll get them to you asap. Hope all's well bud.

Re: answers his own as usual

yeah, i am saying change the engine oil twice, the first run will help clear it out and will help keep the second oil cleaner for longer. i know it will cost but sometimes it makes a big difference, sometimes it makes no difference?

Re: answers his own as usual

Ok, in that case it could be worth getting some cheap oil to throw in it for 2k? And then stick the selinia in it after that? Would I need to change the sump plug twice?

P.S. Have you had any experience with iridium plugs? Are they worth the money?

Re: answers his own as usual

You never need to change the sump plug unless its damaged.

Iridium plugs have their use on highly tuned engines (bike engines) and turbo engines where the temps are a lot higher. The benefits on our engines will be similar to any new set of good plugs.

Re: answers his own as usual

Money down the pan then! Cheers mate.
