Shell tanker drivers

Shell tanker drivers

the act of filling and decanting tankers must take place over 1000 times a day up and down the country without incident so it cant be that dangerous........... can it

I think that statement speaks volumes for the professionalism of the men doing the job....(y)

I dont............ I think it reflects on your management who draw up the procedures you follow, you are just good at doing exactly what your told.

Also known as "DOING THE JOB WE'RE EMPLOYED TO DO, THE WAY IT SHOULD BE DONE"....whats the problem with that???

Or are you finding worthwhile comments hard to come by???

****** to the banter, I was enjoying seeing how the thread was developing and it falls in a heap.

Well you can put that down to folk like Sledge, who seem intent on being sarcastic in reply to whatevers written!!..

Nothing at all, most people are emplyed under the same terms and act in the same way as you, its just they dont demand unrealistic pay rates for what they do and claim the job could kill them.

Regarding worthwhile comments, plenty of people have asked you to back up your claims and statements.........I have yet to see you even try.

Lol im a complete plank... i forgot about the strike and pulled into my local shell petrol station wondering why there were no cars at the pumps.... it clicked and i made a quick embarressed exit lol

I think we've come full circle with the pay thing......thats what the salaries are for the job, live with it!!!

But you claim the salary reflects the dangers involved with the job, fair enough. So I am asking you to justify this statement and provide independent evidence that the job is as high-risk as you say, and waiting......and waiting.......and waiting...........and waiting.

My mum is calling in for my tea now so I have to go, I will look in later and see if you have managed to do this.

Can I ask what the average tanker driver's salary is across the board regardless of employer?

Late 20k's-early 30k's...depends on who you work for really & whether you're delivering Farm fuels, Retail forecourts, aviation fuel.
Some are salaried, some hourly paid...Bp drivers have tipped the high 30k's for a few years now, the rest of us are playing catch-up.

Much to the annoyance of some people it seems...but hey, who cares??

Independant evidence...type"petrol tanker explosion" into Google & have a browse thru that lot..there is a Youtube video of a Shell tanker going up in flames when forecourt staff answered a mobile phone. then theres the 54 people killed when a tanker exploded due to a tyre catching fire whilst on the move........if you still cant comprehend the potential risks, I cannot educate you any further I'm afraid.

Like you said , fuel is delivered a thousand times a day safely...but when the **** hits the fan it happens big time!!

SO??? loads of people work in hazardous industries, i think we have came a full circle on that one also :bang::bang:

the point you dont seem to be getting, is that no-one thinks that tanker drivers deserve that kind of money. the is NO WAY you can justify it, so i would shut up and leave the thread if i were you, its just making it amusing for everyone else :D

So technically the same risks I have when filling up my car or when the aircraft refullers are filling up the planes with AVGAS on the pan?.

Oh and they did the old mobile phone at the petrol pump gag on mythbusters and concluded it was a myth / very very unlikely.

I went out and this was on page 11. You'll forgive me if I haven't read much of the rest. I'll start out being objective and almost certainly degenerate into a drooling rant (as usual) Who said that? Being an HGV driver is not, generally speaking the easiest job in the world. I know, I've done it. Deadlines to meet and seemingly endless knobs on the road getting in the way. Loading bays that are closed when you turn up to tip, not to mention loads that are not ready when you come to collect them. The bulk of your wages are made up of
overtime, unsocial hours and using the £10 (or so) night out money you get to
supplement your wages. Owner drivers have to pay so much now for their diesel that they effectively have no wages at all. As for (petrol) tanker drivers, they don't have nights out, all their deliveries are within a shift range of home. They don't get stressed out waiting for loads as no-one can blame them if they're late going out. When it comes to unloading, again there's little or no problems there either and no load to pick up. Yes, there is an inherrant risk in driving round with 20+ tonnes of petrol in the back, but, You tube notwithstanding, I can't ever remember a petrol tanker driver being killed because of his load. If they've been on the same wages for 14 years as somebody said, then I must admit, I wouldn't have minded being paid £30K in
1984.

Similar scenario when your filling a car I suppose, as petrol vapours are present, albeit on a smaller scale, Vapours from Avgas & Jet A1 are less volatile.

& it doesnt have to be mobile phones which cause ignition, ciggies, spark from a car starter motor & even static from clothing can do the trick.
