Shell Optimax

Shell Optimax

This thread is quite interesting really!

I was at Tesco Express the other day, (who use the same stuff as Esso for all you supermarket knockers!) regular wasn't on, so I tried the premium stuff because my car pretty much was dry.

Personally, I've noticed my car doesn't struggle to start anymore. Obviously it's early days but it's been just as cold since the new stuff went in. The car felt smoother and a bit more responsive, I'd say cleaner, not more bhp. Fuel consumption is exactly the same in my experience, 200 miles, and I'm on half a tank.

From the sounds of things, it might not make a difference after a few more fill ups. So logically, it'll make sense to go back when the feeling has worn off.

For the record, I don't work for Tesco!

Well i wish i had the cash to see if it would make a difference in the bug :p

I'd be more bothered if it improved mpg than bhp increase though.

I too was tempted the other day but that 96.9 for the optimax put me riiiight orrff.

No way, last time I used Tesco my Car literally had no response what so ever... was like I filled the engine with cheap alchohol and I'm an Esso man and that don't give me any problems.

:yeahthat: all the ones round here are too, perhaps their supermarket stations are different.

I usually avoid Asda petrol like the plague, seems if they can sell it so cheap, it really can't be that good quality. But I had no choice but to fill my tank to the brim with it coming back from cornwall the other week, and it seemed to go much further than the Shell I used to go down with.

Am i being stupid here or what.

Petrol is petrol, whether you buy it from tesco/asda or whereever. Its all psychological!

I've used petrol from loads of places and it doesnt make a blind bit of difference.

I'm not talking about posh petrol here before someone goes off on one ;)

Ever thought Asda petrol is cheap because they sell so much of it?!

I deal purely in super/ultimate/ploptimax etc, tesco/esso both seem medium will do markers, ploptimax and 99 octane tesco stuff she loves like a fat kid likes cake :p and BP Ultimate she absolutely hates (n) makes her run like bag of spanners (well is anyway at mo but still lol :p)

Lucky I have a texaco right next to my house so I get quality petrol with the proper detergents. I sometimes make the trip to rhyl for some Optimax if I'm feeling flush, you can really feel the difference. Once I bought some optimax and chucked in some of that octane booster so I must have had about 103 RON petrol in the tank. Fccuck me did she fly !

To be honest mate I was gonna ask the same thing. Usually when I fill up the car is about to roll to a stop so I don't have time to pick a brand! Then again, who isn't loyal to some sort of brand? Same thing applies really

Nike or Adidas? Shell or Asda? Premium or Normal?

Choices....choices....

Asda states the standards that their fuel meets and the detergents used.

The fact is simple as this: Shell, BP or whoever wouldn't make their bog standard fuel any better than anybody elses and not market it as such. :)

I know this is very very old but I'd never read this before...

Use supermarket fuel? Pay less now, pay for it all later when the engine goes early
Is there any evidence, at all, to back this up?
