That's the trouble - you can be driving as careful as you like, but if some other twonk is out of control there's nothing you can do to prepare for it. Glad they're both ok.
Mike

They're both back home now, safe and well. Dad's face looks a bit of a mess, and Sister has seatbelt bruises.

Police involved. Sounds like the lady was driving dangerously. She tried turning right when dad was coming towards her, she cut accross his path, and the whole of the front and front drivers wing took the brunt.

Dad's seat took alot of the impact. Looks like I'll be karting dad about tomorrow to sort things out.

Just a little question, anyone had anything similar happen to a family member? Just they were both carted away and car obviously recovered by the police or something. What happens as far as sorting things out with car and getting bits out and insurance etc? Just dad and sister have no details or anything. I've said I'll sort the imediate things out for dad, so looks like I'll be heading down the police station first thing in the morning to try and get details of her insurance and where the car is etc.

Don't even know if I want to see the car. Could put me off of Panda'ing :(

Jon.
Hi i'm Andy,Trevs mate,i'm a recovery driver down in sussex,we work for/with the police, and now actually work in the offics/yard and deal with this all the time,go to police with as many details of the accident that you have, they will tell you where the car has been taken(this will be an aproved contractor for the police),they will require photo id,paper id and most importantly to them proof of insurance,ie insurance docs(they wont let you near the car till they see these, mainly so they know they are getting paid),if your fully comp they will/should let you take whatever you require from the car,but be warned it will scare you, take someone with you,but remember they have walked away, the car did its job,and it's only a lump of metal, also in this day and age you dont need to claim on your insurance, many lawyers would take it on,we use a firm at work, non fault no charge type affair, main benifit is your insurance won't go up
regrds Andy,ps any questions pass on to trev and i'll reply, pps police will give you allt he details of the other driver

Thanks Trev. About to call local recovery firm that the local Police normally use to see if the car is with them.

Somehow I think the car is sitting out in the eliments (wet and rain here) with quite a few hundred pounds worth of dad's tools in the boot :(

Oh well, that's what insurance is for. lol.
police will have had it recovered, andy

Glad they are Both ok Jon wish them a speedy recovery from me (y)

The police often remove any thing of value from the boot before the car is recovered and secure it in the property room at the local (to the officer) nick.....

well if you give up on pandering you could always come join the GP mob ;)

is it too soon to start hinting about cheap 750 to re shell it with?

Lol. Would have taken you up on that, but just been to the smash site, and I think the engine is ****ed. Oil everywhere! :(

Otherwise might have taken you up on it! Going to press hard though to get a day with the car to remove EVERYTHING of value parts wise! Wiper motors etc.

Dad seems all ok with it, were talking about it in the car. Sister still shaken.

Thanks for all the support guys, and thanks for the post about what to do tomorrow Trev, and Trev's Andy.

Oh, and Andy M, will be going back over to the dark side, mk3 Panda if anything . But not quite yet. Dad's already thinking of http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=170311244005 So no bidding anyone!

I can't believe how easy he is about it all! I'm like, leave it for a bit, and he's like NO I WILL HAVE ANOTHER SELECTA! :p

MEP, if this is an insurance job you won't be allowed to remove any parts from the car, only your personal possessions, as it is deemed to belong to the insurance company. And if the damage is really bad (which it is from the sounds of it) it will be recorded as a Cat A write off. You might be able to buy it back from the insurance company when it's all settled but I wouldn't bank on it. It will probably be sent straight to the crusher. Best to let it go completely I'm afraid.

:yeahthat: Engine and gearbox on the Selecta's are wider.

That's what I thought, but according to a letter we got from the insurance company of the bloke who went into the passenger side 6 weeks ago (all rather minor now) they said in the event of it being written off, insurance companies are only bound to dispose of the vehicle if you decide that you want them to dispose of it for you.

Not sure if same applies, as you say I can only see it being a CAT B/A unfortunatly. Just hope it's a B and we're allowed access to it for parts. Think we need to explain why....

Dear insurance company.

I have a strange son who collects Panda, please could we have ours back for spare bits.

Many thanks. MEP's dad.

Will see what happens.
