anyone know how to do this as i just am not getting it :eek:

i have the bt home hub and have two laptops connected to it. i want to transfer the files from one to the other, and as the dvd drive is buggered on the one i need the files off, i thought this was the best way to do it.

so can anyone help? :bang:

So the BT Home hub is the router, yes [although it isn't much good for anything else, hated in the P2P world...]

So you will have 2 laptops - you need to confirm their IP addresses on the LAN, both on the same subnet, i.e. 192.168.1.xxx for example.

Then Right Click on My Computer --> Properties --> Computer Name - and look at the Workgroup that they are in; this needs to be the same for BOTH laptops.

Once that is sorted, you can right click on folders, share to the network, and pick them up in My Network Places.

I am sure they will be, if using the home hub and it is controlling DHCP.

Start -->RUN ---> cmd

Then in the box, type ipconfig

For VISTA, just type cmd in the search box

yep. had chris (seraph) have a look at it but he couldnt do it either. thinks there may be a problem with the xp laptop. kirsty has now transfered over a gig of files using a 128mb data pen lol. thanks for all your help people.
