Recommend me a VPN

I was about to sign up, then discovered that many VPNs are Chinese owned. With their attitude to government control and security (think TokTok) that seems to be a bit of a contradiction.

Can anyone suggest an affordable VPN that is genuinely safe?

I've used PIA for a few years now got a good renewal deal something like £41 for 3 years
Current prices seem to be a lot more however

That being said they got took over last year by a company with appernt link to iresali intelligence supposedly anyway how true it is I don't know

They also don't log any personal information about users like some of them do
