General Serious rust trap

General Serious rust trap

I have identified a serious rust trap on all pur Pandas that has the potential to kill your Panda. They are all the same from the 2003 model. Details are posted in the Panda Mk 3 forum. SORRY - Im too stupid to see the above....

It'll be up in both front arches/inner wings there is a section behind the shock absorber it's like a cubbyhole, inside there towards the front of the car there is a drain hole & what happens is all the crud gets in there, blocks up the drain hole & if left ends up rotting the area out & if bad enough working it's way into the engine bay near the front legs

Yup - that little ‘shelf’ is one of the key places I hose out regularly for that very reason. A single road chipping is enough to block the drain hole. Same with the rear spring cups. Also, but trickier to get too, behind the rear wheelarch liner by the rear passenger doors. You can direct a hose jet up in there from under the sill - but usually get a faceful of water on the way past :)

(BTW, note ‘hose’ not pressure washer. A hose is all it takes)

My Panda was easy to clean behind the arch liner as the liner had broke on the bottom which I never replaced as it made it easier to clean out 😂 I used to regularly hose the rear beam down including spring cups & always kept the arch liners clean. A woman I used to work with had a really clean 1108 169 which she loved but had crud sitting on the bottom of the rear arch/sill area so I said to her one day you want to keep that area clean as they rot there & also showed her the little shelf in the front arches. After that those areas were always clear & clean 😂

Picture maybe of that drain hole..?

Since you asked so nicely…😛

External views under left hand wheelarch. The under-bonnet view is the drivers side (RHD). At the other side the hole is obscured by the battery. The rear spring cup: there’s a series of holes which easily block with a stone (or too much underbody wax)

This is my 2018 car. It used to be used daily for 50 mile round trip. But in recent years it’s used rather less and is in need of a little cleaning up (cars are always better if used frequently, I know. My 2013 Defender does the bulk of my carrying these days)
