I'm embarking on a restoration project on my Daughters 1993 Selecta. There's a fair bit to do, most of which I'm sure I can cope with. But the most worrying one is a catastrophic leak from the transmission.
Any time the engine is on and the pump running the fluid is pissing out, partly from the pipes leading to the cooler. Hopefully new pipes will cure that, but I think they need to be high pressure, high temperature rather than just fuel pipe?
More worrying though is a leak from the vertical joint between the housings in the photo attached. ('Ive cleaned it up so not clearly visible). Does this have a gasket or is it just a machined aluminium face? Is this the housing where the pump is fitted? Can this be withdrawn with the engine in, or do I need to take the whole engine and box out?
Can you still get the spares, ie gaskets, filters, oil pipes etc?

hmm my advice is a bit naff but i would make sure the bolts are torqued correctly. i would assume that it has a paper type gasket.
i would also check to see if these gearboxes have a breather in them and that it is not blocked as if pressure builds up it will try to force oil out anywhere (i had a front axle on a suzuki SJ do this as the breather was blocked soon as i cleared the breather the leak stopped even though the diff was overfilled)

if you are going to try to bodge it my recommendation would be to not start or run the car for a while and use brake and clutch cleaner on where the oil weeps from... wait a few days then clean it again by spraying it on. wait for all the brake and clutch cleaner to evaporate then run a bead of gasket maker along the seam and flatten it down with a wet finger. i would then let it dry for a few days just to make sure its stuck well.
i know its a bodge but i have had great success with this same technique on the forklift at work. some 5 years on now and its still not dripping and that thing is in heavy constant use from 8am to 6pm every day.
the trick is making sure its perfectly clean and oil free.

maybe worth doing while you decide on a "split the box to replace the seals" option... as i think it would be the only future proof way to fix it :(
 
Thanks for the response, I might try the sealant route, nothing to loose. Such a heavy flow doesn’t fill me with confidence though.
Not sure how to find out about the breather?
