My sisters cinq was driving and the alternator seized - what other damage do you all realisticaly think could have been done? I need to collect it by the end of the month and need to take the parts with me so I can drive it back (150 mile trip).

you will have nothing to worry about mate, the same thing happened to me all i had to do is buy a new alternator and belt. after that no probs at all.

Just looked in the haynes manual - looks like a complete nightmare of a job to do! :bang:

Was hoping to take a spare one with me and change it on the side of the road, but perhaps that was optomistic (n)

it's an easy job

i changed mine lying in a snow/slush filled gutter in a blizzard once.

jack car up, remove wheel, remove liner, disconnect battery, disconnect wires from alternator, remove 2 bolts, remove alternator, fit new one, fitting is reversal of removal :D

I don't like the idea of taking a trolly jack /axle stands on the train ;) and then jacking a car up as it's parked half on some grass and half on the road

Possibly - needs must I'll have to see!

get her to take the battery off, charge it up, and then take some jump leads with you, jump it off someone elses car. don't turn on anything electrical you don't need and drive it somewhere easier to work on it :)

Mwhahahah my sister couldn't even change a fuse let alone charge the battery LMAO! Good idea though i could potentially take a charged battery with me!

yeah that, just cut the altenator belt off so its not grinding the altenator to bits, no radio, and pref in the day time so no lights on and no fans on

just make sure you get someone to jump start it, or bump start it - firing it up will nuke the battery, seriously reducing your range.
