I bought a Seicento S 1.1 for my wife last week. The car still has low mileage and is in good condition I checked the oil condition (still pretty clear) and the water still green from the anti-freeze before making an offer, I test drove the car and every thing seemed fine so we bought the car. when we got home my wife said the car has a yellow light that came on about 20Kms from home.
I checked the light and the manual and saw it was the EBOD light. now the thing is I bought the car with one of those ugly "cone" type air filters installed:confused:
so the next day I called the dealer and he told me the light was due to the "after market" air cleaner (the dealer also couldn't get me the original air cleaner)... :bang:
Now I would like to know could it be it or should I make the 95 KM drive to my nearest FIAT garage for them to check the car?

PS:I stay in a pretty rural part of South Africa

First things first, the engine management light is red and looks like an injector, if it's yellow I don't think it's that. What shape was it, or was it just a circle?

Edit: Although looking at the handbook for the later models, the EOBD light is the shape of an engine and is amber so it could be that but worth making sure.

It is a 2002 Model and it is the amber light that looks like an engine

There is no point trying to guess what it is. The light being on is telling you that the ECU has logged a fault code. You need to read this fault code and go from there.

You can either find an auto electrician who can read the fault (OBD2 is a standard) or buy the kit to do it yourself. Check on eBay for an ELM327 interface. That's normally the cheapest way of doing; it plugs into a laptop.

The code will tell you why the ECU thinks the light should be on. I could speculate and say "change the lambda sensor" but tbh, it's not worth replacing bits and trying to second guess what is wrong.

I'll check @ work tomorrow If I can find it online thanks for the tip.
