Hi all, just wondering on a 2000 Seicento 1.1 sporting, are there any parts from Puntos or other cars that can be swapped over to improve bhp? Intake manifolds? Throttle bodies maybe?

Also anywhere that does chips with generic maps on for cheap? Can't be bothered paying £240 for superchips to remap it as it's only worth a 4bhp gain and that is too much for me tbh

Thanks in advance

A good recipe is a 75 cam, uno 45 inlet mani, 40mm throttle body, GSR or Focus induction kit and any decent tubular manifold you can lay your hands on.

But I'd be inclined to uprate the brakes, tyres and wheels and shocks first. Any of the Punto FIRE engines can (and have) been fitted.

It's all here, somewhere.........

before you throw bits at the car make sure it is upto spec and serviced correctly

oil
oil filter
fuel filter
air filter
spark plugs
HT leads
gearbox oil
make sure none of the brakes are sticking or dragging

simply bolting on the go faster bits wont work, such as if you go and put on as stated a 866 cam you will need to shim in correctly to have any gains

just do some searches and it will show alot up

main thing is what your insurance says about the modifications

Doesn't the punto cam need to be reground? Seems difficult tbh

And wouldn't it need a map to run best? A generic one wouldn't really be suitable would it? Would really need a live map?

Car is serviced every 5000 miles, Bosch plugs, Magnecor HT leads, good oil in it and it's all topped up etc - I keep very good care of my engine :)

What gains can i expect from a Sportex cat back and a supersprint manifold coupled with the induction kit below.

I am hoping for around 5-7bhp?

hi is your's the spi? i have the same problem i want to leave the block in just change the head and inlet to the p75 and splice the injector plugs to the single loom im new to sure what to do but this is what ive been told

maybe this will help me out alot too

good luck :D
cheers mike

magnecor HT leads are pretty much a placebo ;) no real advantage

changing a cam over is one of the easiest thing on these engines easily do-able in under a hour, id recommend while changing the cam to do the timing belt alternator belt and water pump while the belts have to come off

I know but they were only £30 and they are more durable and make the engine bay look nicer so i couldn't say no really :)

Can't i buy a higher lift / better performance cam from Kent or Catcams etc? I don't like the idea of having to get it shimmed etc

But don't forget to check the valve clearances and re-shim if necessary.

5 bhp is probably about right, but I'm pretty sure you have an SPI engine, so you need the SPI induction kit, not the MPI one -- although the one in the pic is an SPI one.

You could get all that for less by popping in an 8v 1242 engine and more torque, too. Depends on where you're coming from/going to..........

if you don't like shimming just sell the car now, all 8v fire engines are shimmed its to get the clearance correct for the valve

"866" is a high lift for these engines you can get a good one for around £30-£40 or less depending on where you live, no point paying over the top for something that has a name to it

if you want to get a silly cam get a 268 cam have a search on the forum will show it

Anyone on here sell cams pre-shimmed so i can just fit them (Don't have a problem with fitting them :))

Will i need a map to get anything from a punto cam? what kind of bhp figures without?

Anywhere sell slightly bigger throttle bodies at all?

Thanks for all the help so far people, been fantastic :)

just thought id point out. no matter what cam you buy it needs shimming end of...

shims are matched to your engine not the cam. there there to take up minute differences in the block so the overall hight remains what the cam needs.... so regardless of a punto cam or a c&b cam its time to learn how to shim....

Dare I suggest that if you think a cam can come 'pre-shimmed' then possibly engine modifying isn't for you.

Most 'minor' modifications will be doable with the standard ECU chipped. The Ecu is self learning, unless you intend to put a load of overlap in.

Well in the Saxo world the most common cam upgrades are Newman PH1s, PH2s and PH3s and they don't need "Shimming"? They just replace the standard cam but need a remap to sort the fueling out etc

VTS has hydraulic tappets, they may still need the preload set, and VTR has manual tappets that will need set when the cam is changed.

Shimming is just a different way of adjusting tappets.

To get the best from any engine correctly setting up all the parameters will give every last bit of advantage.

Its all to easy to fit a part and tell yourself its going better without any scientific backup.
