So having bought a replacement car for my daughter and deciding that this one will go to the great breakers in the sky I thought I would have one last look, as you do. After several more hours I finally solved the problem and you will be very surprised, it was a 20p fuse. I realised that the problem was wiring and that it was a power feed to the ECU, I discovered that if I shuffled the fuse box about the power to the Fuel Rail Solenoid was coming and going, anyway after a lot of checking of wires and connections etc I discovered a dodgy engine management fuse ( there is a couple of them in the fuse box), changed fuse and not more problem.
