My passenger seat is now more than a little lumpy and by carefully prodding some of the lumps I can get the airbag warning light to go off....I guess that means I need a new OCS. How much are they? Presumably no one yet makes an aftermarket one?

Just take it out of the seat and fit it UNDER the seat [little tip from the Greek forum ] :)

I'm always a bit wary of this sensor, as it is not just a simple on - off switch detecting whether there is a person there or not. This device measures the weight of the person too. The airbag is a progressive type, meaning the deployment can be controlled depending what weight it will eventually be stopping.

Best not to fool it into working at a 'rate' not applicable to the actual job if it all goes wrong.

Just by 2 pence worth.

If the sensor is taken out and stowed under the seat then the airbag warning will still come on as it is signalling a fault with the sensor. It just won't show so often as if someone is moving in the seat. Remember the warnings come on regardless of whether there's someone in the seat so it won't make any difference where you put the sensor (apart from killing your passenger)

Because much, much worse, the air bag won't go off AT ALL when it is required because it senses no one in the seat. As Stilo Ste says, it's an intelligent air bag system so if you purposely fool it, horrible things could happen come to the crunch ( and there's been quite a few Stilos coming to the crunch lately)

Just to clear up why the Greek lads do it in the first place ..They do it when they fit leather seats from one of the alfa's which are a direct replacement for the stilo ..you obviously cant fit the sensor in the leather passenger seat so its fitted under the seat out of the way one of many of the little dodges they have found over there ..the drivers side leather seat has the same connections the stilo has and so every thing is the same for that side so its just fit the seat and push connectors together :)

u can get an emulator on ebay. it is very dangerous if airbag dont work. The are 54gbp. i got one on ebay

I can’t quite believe I’m reading this, £90 is a rip off I agree but fooling the air bag is crazy.
If the worst happened and your passenger was seriously injured you will be paying for the rest of your life, if they were killed it’s manslaughter and that’s jail time.

It's a 4 year old thread... Anyway, the OCS emulator work as there is always a person sitting there - just as the Stilos delivered from 2004 or so without this stupid thing. So the airbag will work.

Re: Solved - Seat occupancy sensor

Hi
If you (or someone you know) are prepared to spend some time removing the sensor from the seat in question, and have the skill (believe me, it IS a skill) and ability to solder 20 resistors onto it, then you might have a chance to clear that issue.
Stilo Abarth 2.4 Selespeed owner for over 6 years, I have had this issue on and off since I bought it. Finally took some advise from this forum (after trying all the easier suggestions first of course) and had the sensor modded to simulate the seat always occupied (better than not occupied). Issue has gone!!!!!! :D

I have attached the details of components used. Hope this helps you and others.
