Hi all,

I said i would run this by you all.

I own a 2007 Fiat Scudo 120 multijet. I have the van 18 months now and i am very happy with it. I would consider myself a very hard driver and this van has never given a minutes trouble.

However, last week the electric power steering pump failed. I sent the pump to BBA Reman for testing and it came back unrepairable. So, i took it apart knowing that the pump and dc motor would be fine. The reason for failure was moisture and water ingress into the electronics board. I cleaned and blew out the components as a last resort but only could get it to work intermittently. Cant understand why BBA couldn replace this.

So, what i have decided to do is this, bearing in mind that these pumps are €1200 new.

The motor is a 2 speed. One for 80% running (3500 revs) and the other 100% (4500 revs) approx. hence the ECU. I am going to wire the motor direct for the 100% running circuit through a relay, taking the engine running signal from the alternater. This bypasses the electronic circuitry completely.

I will then run a clone signal back through the ecu diagnostics wire on the 3 pin connector to stop the fault signal on screen.

If anyone can see any potential problems with this money saving fix please please penny for your thoughts thank you as this is a major fault with these vans. :bang:

Could'nt you send the board to 1 of the Commercial Electronic repair centres for repair ? They normally have the kit for testing all sorts of board, Would be a lot cheaper than a new Pump.
