My headlight washers work but no water at the screen jets. Took the jets off but no water comes up the pipe. Any easy clues? Mal

Do you get water at the rear washer? The headlamp washers and the screen washers use a different pump (one pump for the front/rear screens and another for the headlamps). When I was having problems with my rear washer I swapped the pipes over on the screen pump (front to rear and vice versa) to rule out a blockage.
If you don't get water at either screen after swapping the pipes over I'd say the pump was knackered. They are cheap on eBay (around a tenner).

Tip: if you have the ELX model with driving lamps in the front valance, remove the offside lamp (drivers side) and you'll be straight onto the pump. Much easier than trying to get at it under the car!!

How come I don't have headlamp washers on my 2005 eleganza

The older cars, pre-facelift, got them by way of compensation for how damned ugly they are!!!

Only joking. Don't know why yours hasn't got them. I love the way the older ones look, much better than the newer, boring ones. :D

Where is the main windscreen pump located? Are both pumps run off of the same fuse?

It's behind the bumper on the drivers side. If you look straight down from where you refill the bottle, I think that you can just see it. Not sure about the fuses though; the front and rear washers use the same pump (it spins in both directions) so I'd imagine that it did use the same fuse. What problem do you have then?

The problem with mine is that the rear washer doesn't work! I've tried to see if there is a blockage but there isnt much to check:cool:

Update
Infact the rear washer and the headlight washers do not work, any ideas?

For the rear one, the pipe union will probably have come off the inside of the wiper motor shaft, really common problem. You need to take the panel off the inside of the tailgate to check, but a simple test is stick the washer on for a while (10-20 secs) and then lift the tailgate, if the pipe is off, water should p155 out!

On further investigation I found that the pipe had come off the rear washer so thanks for the heads up guys!!

The headlight washers are a different story...........There is no power getting to the pump; I tried it with the power from the main pump and it worked! Does the headlight pump work off of a different fuse?

I'm no auto electrician so I haven't got a clue why there is no power, however I did consider spuring off of the main pump power cables but was worried that it may not provide enough power to run both pumps.

Any ideas?

Scotty:confused:

I'm sure you know this, but just in case, the headlight washers only operate if the headlights are turned on... they then should squirt at the same time as the windscreen wash. However, they have a timer so only squirt for a second or two, even if you keep washing the screen fro longer. This is to save water (they use a lot!). I believe there is a separate fuse -- see the rather vague list of fuses in the owners handbook...

They only work with the lights on do they.....................Ooops:eek:

Perhaps I should go outside and check again now that it's dark!!

Re: Ariel

I began to strip it down this evening to fit the replacement ariel.............what a pain in the ass, I didn't realise you had to remove most of the interior to get at it!

I've had enough for this evening so I will finish it off tomorrow morning(y)

Right then...............the ariel is now fitted and working, what a nightmare job that was!!!

One final job, I need to replace a dash bulb; lets hope I don't have to remove the dash!!!:D

Tha dash bulb was a little easier to sort, roll on next week when I fit the lowering springs!!!
