sorry to hear about your wait, hope this isn't a sign of things to come! Given the fact there is an expensive car sat there and they want a chunk of my money my bet is it won't take that long!

Is there a log anywhere to allow us to keep tabs on the number of scrappage transactions that have taken place?
My banger will have been owned by me for a year in December, 7 months from now. I am concerned the £300,000000 will have run out by then!
Oh and the issue with this thread is browser version dependent.

I think you'll find the car had to be owned by you for 12 months before the scheme started. I'd certainly check first....
My dealer was booking 35 sales into the scrappage scheme yesterday, so thats 35k of the money gone already from one dealer and they aren't a very big concern !
And Ford claim they have had 3000 orders already under scrappage - given they represent 17.5% of the UK market that could mean over 17,000 orders already on scrappage and lesser manufacturers like Fiat will probably gain market share given the relatively low cost range and bigger % savings !

Renault are offering £2500 + governments £1000 off a new Clio Extreme. Can you guys still convince me I should get a 500? A Ten grand car for 6.5k sounds pretty good to me.

You can get a 1.4 8V Grande Punto GP with 16" wheels , sporty interior, blue n me etc etc for £7400 + part ex in Perrys. New crs not pre reg. Better car than the Clio by a long chalk. Neither are as appealing as a 500 though
How long will it last ?? - half the people on here have placed orders before this week, so its hard to gauge how much the uptake will be now its live. If you assume there are 20k orders now, call it 30k orders by end of month. Add on say 5k for vans etc and you're looking at 35k orders in first month, so thats £35M of the £300M gone. At that rate it'll last the 9 months the scheme is designed to run for.
I think you'll be OK for a few months, the scheme isn't exactly appealing to higher value car sales anyway as the £2k is a pretty small % that you can better by haggling. The money would run out quicker if he government made it more appealing with £2k of their money ! With 10 week lead times on a 500 you can afford to order in 5 weeks time, knowing you'll not be paying the bill for another 10 after that !. ITs the order date that gets your money allocation reserved, not the final collection date.

Its your choice between specs - on a lounge you gt glass roof, chrome kit an split rear seats versus a sport where you get fog lights, rear tints and a rear spoiler, plus slightly beefier seat bolsters. No ivory dash trim (ambience) on a sport model so if you want a light dash then start with the lounge. For my spec i can go either way - i'd add split seats as a minimum to a sport spec, possibly chrome kit if i went for a dark colour. I'd add fogs to a lounge. Little difference in the end, so horses for courses. I don't want the ivory trim so i have both options as a start point.

Its not loads tho is it... its the 500 or a Clio. That'll be two then. For once I agree with Daniel... go drive both cars and buy the one you like best when you are ready for it. Why not join a Renault forum and see what their opinion of the Clio is? You'd get opinions about both then! Don't buy a car on our say so! We're biased!
The Clio is 6495 under scrappage but still only 7495 from Renault - they discount it 2500 anyway. The less you pay the less you have to lose i guess so a 4 yr old Clio might make £2.5k private sale, in which case its cheap motoring at £25/week when you add in insurance, tax and servicing.
The real advantage of the scrappage on 500s is of course that the best discount you can get now is probably £300 and even that was before the dealers got inundated with scrappers. giving up a £300 car for a £2000 discount on a 500 is a worthwhile move - you could sell it after 15 months for £7500 so its almost free motoring !
