General Scrappage scheme with the 500?

I suppose it depends what you bought it for... I bought mine with my heart, and that's what I drive it with everyday and why it puts a smile on my face. You could say, as some have, its just a panda in a posh frock, so why not buy a panda and spend less? Its more practical in a number of ways... but its not a 500 is it?

Its not loads tho is it... its the 500 or a Clio. That'll be two then. For once I agree with Daniel... go drive both cars and buy the one you like best when you are ready for it. Why not join a Renault forum and see what their opinion of the Clio is? You'd get opinions about both then! Don't buy a car on our say so! We're biased!

:)

Exactly. The thing is he's going to own this car for a long time and he might be a very different person to the people on this forum who obviously love their 500's or people on a renno forum who like their Clios. There's no substitute for experiencing a car for yourself. Do you really want that car to turn up and jump in to find you don't like the driving position or the interior or the way it handles? I think not!

Super500, I had a glossy booklet from my dealer, Glynn Hopkin, Chadwell Heath and it had a whole page in glorious colour stating that they were selling both models o f Abarth under the scrappage scheme. If I can find it in the recycle bin I can scan the page and post it here for you.

As promised, shame this site doen't have smellyvision. LOL.

god i want a 500 abarth, they are so cool.

shame the only car i own that qualify's for the scrappage scheme is the MareaTurbo and i like to think i could get a £2500-£3000 if i sold her privately, be a bit of a shame to scrap her for £2000 :(

I took advantage of the scrappage on the 18th to 'trade in' my 10 year old ford ka for a 1.2 lounge with loads of extras. Managed to squeze a discount out of them to end up with a total 23% discount. (y) Picking the car up tomorrow evening. Had to do a quick turn around to avoid getting an MOT / Tax etc. on the old car. They had one in stock that I liked so it's worked out very well.

I test drove the 1.2 and liked it, I asked some time before about a test drive of a 1.4 but no can do, rare as rocking horse sh*t it semms for test drives...

 I think that Venters might ban you from the 500 section if you scrapped a Marea. LOL. There aren't that many of you about.

I think you'll find the car had to be owned by you for 12 months before the scheme started. I'd certainly check first....

Can anyone confirm this? I thought I had read everything there was to know about this scheme. The way I had interpreted it was that if I was in posession of a vehicle for 12 months or more at any time during the government scheme, I was eligible. I could have missed something though. Can't say I have seen anything that states I had to have owned it for 12 months prior to the 23rd April 2009.

you need to have owned the vehicle for 12 months at point of order as this is the point at which the dealer obtains the avril number and adds that to the government scrappage system, not at point of collection or start of scheme.

Its purely to prevent people buying a £50 auction banger and driving it to a dealer same day and getting £2k for it.

I would just triple check this. I've heard varying things.

I have ordered my 500 1.4 sport with leccy sunny, 16"'s, interscope, etc etc and am scrapping my A3 1.6 for this. It's over 10 years and pretty much on its last legs, having 150,000 miles on the clock. Although runs really well theres no-way someone would be mad enough to buy it, ive tried. The most ive been offered so far is £1200 and that was before January when the sh*t hit the credit fan. So im making £800 from scrapping it in reality on top of the offer made. Thinking about taking off some body parts to sell on though as ive been told the car doesn't even have to be in "working condition".

Has anybody actually received a car under the scrappage scheme yet? I reserved a 500 Lounge Multijet from my local dealer - it was the one sitting on the showroom floor. I've paid a deposit, the dealer has fitted a nice towbar and wasI expecting to collect the car this week. However, it seems that the dealer is still awaiting authorisation to release the car under the scrappage scheme from Fiat, who in turn seem to be waiting for confirmation from BERR.
I'm told that my application is the first on the list, but it's all a bit frustrating when I can see the 500 just sitting there, the money ready in the bank, but I'm still in my 12 year old Omega.
Any thoughts?

Ditto, picking ours up at 4pm today or there abouts. Called the dealer today to check and all ok with scrappage. Also found out that it has the blue&me sat nav fitting in the dash. For a show room car it had all the extras and more that we could ask for, he said it's the only car they have had with the sat nav dash fitting. Not sure if we will go for the sat nav straight away but it's nice to know we have the option of no wires.

It's going to be a bit sad parting with the old car having had it so long... Still a new 500 will help get over it :slayer:

I'm going alone as the girlfriend can't bear to part with Norman (her first car it belonged to her dad and grandad), but like you said Norman MK2 will ease the pain!

I'm picking ours up at 4pm today so I will let you know how we get on!

Hope everything goes alright for both of you, a successful handover will re-assure everyone else who has ordered under the scrappage scheme and put their minds at ease.

Don't know where you are both based but hope you get the good weekend weather we are expecting down south so you can really enjoy the first days of 500 ownership. (y)

Curiously, Mrs Berlusconi is also scrapping her 1998 A3 1.6, though a mere 100k on it! Paperwork effectively done, just have to sign a form!

We should get our order number shortly, 1.2 Pop, Bossa nova white, 15" alloys, mats and key cover thrown in!! Some chromes bits plus white mirror covers already bought off ebay!!

Delivery end of July.
