Thinking about taking off some body parts to sell on though as ive been told the car doesn't even have to be in "working condition".

Probably not worth taking too much off it, as the pain of ebay adverts outweighs the gain. However its always worth taking out the sterao, spare wheel , jacks and accessories. If its got front fog lights you could strip those out for ebay.

If you have alloys swap them for a car with steelies :D

Well I have just picked Norman MK2 up and my girlfriend and I are both delighted as you would imagine.

A few words of advice for those purchasing using scrappage, they want paperwork for everything. So bring the following:-

V5 logbook for car being scrapped
Current Valid MOT certificate
Tax disk for car being scrapped (this can be claimed back)
proof that the vehicle being scrapped is insured.

Photo ID, passport or driving licence including paper counterpart
Utility bill and other form of address (our car was not bought on finance but this was still required)
Insurance certificate for new vehicle so it can be taxed

I don't think i've missed anything but if you have all this to hand you will make the process much smoother.

Hope this is useful and this proves without a shadow of doubt 500s can be purchased using scrappage

I will post some photos for you all to see in due course but we're off out tonight!

Ciao

That's good to know. I've just been on the phone to my dealer and he's insisting Fiat haven't given them authorisation to release cars under the scrappage scheme. I told him that people here have been talking about picking their 500s up today (and I'm glad to see you've been successful), but he's claiming that their dealers are risking not being reimbursed. I pointed out that it's hardly a risk, as he's already seen my paperwork and I have all the money sorted, but he's blaming his "head of sales".
This is all very frustrating! :bang:
Which dealers have released cars under the scheme so far?

WE did not use scrappage pickup ours up yesterday (Thursday 21st), but whilst we were in the dealership another customer was collecting a 500 he had used scrappage on, that was at Sunwin Derby if that helps. They also had another car waiting to go out on scrappage, but the customers PX was 4 days under 10 years, so they said he was having to come back in a few days as there is no leway it has to be exctly 10 years or more, and could not even let 4 days slip under the radar.

Im glad to see some Audis meeting their maker through this scheme:), but it does show up the wastefullness of it... I mean a 100k mile A3 would be a good car for someone but no, it has to be crushed, stupid just stupid.
My mates just bought an Audi 80 Quattro with just 80,000 on the clock, its mint condition and one owner. It nearly went for scrappage as the former chopped it in for a new Audi but the dealer did him a good deal which involved them selling his old car... as my mate has said its got years of life in it and to have scrapped it would be plain ridiculous.
Im sure a lot of good quality, but low value cars will be lost through the scheme:(

I'm taking part in the Scrappage scheme & buying a new 500 (y)

I am now the proud owner of a 500 automatic which was delivered to me on Thursday by Westover Salisbury.
There were a few hoops to go through, first they had said the 'scrappee' could be SORN which ours was because our daughter had abandoned it when she left for OZ. Then late on Monday they said it had to be taxed after all, (but aren't sure if we will get the unused part of this back). Then we had just a small window of time to tax it because we'd transferred the insurance to the new car from the next day, before he would deliver it. Then I had to photocopy and send proof of identity. Then they said they needed the actual insurance document not a copy, so I had to pop this in the post. They already had taken copies of the MOT certificate and log book.
Then just as he was about to deliver it, he took payment. The deposit had been allowed on a credit card - but the balance had to be on a debit card. A little warning of this would have been nice because not everyone will have thought to put £6800 in a current account.
At least I have the car now, and 6 weeks before the friend who first thought of using the scrappage scheme for a Fiat 500.

nb it's azure though it doesn't look it here.

Hello, i'm getting my new 500 next Saturday on the scrappage scheme and i'm so bloody excited i think it's a little unhealthy! :D

After desperately trying for a car loan for a couple of months i wasn't getting anywhere with the current financial climate so i just gave up and came to peace with the fact i'd be rolling around in my crappy, yet ever faithful, Micra... it's not just a Micra, it's a snot green colour. :yuck: As soon as i heard about the scrappage scheme i legged it to my local Fiat dealer, i figured seeing as they're so desperate to get the car industry moving again surely their finance folk wouldn't turn me, the owner of an old banger, down? And sure enough 2 hours later i walked out £250 down and VERY happy (the only time i will be happy about anyone taking money off me), i had put deposit down on my brand spanking new 500, high five! Then, unexpectedly, i moved house... i had changed all my details to do with the car, my home etc but the dealer still had my V5 from my first visit (to make sure i was eligible for the scheme)... i completely forgot about the V5, bugger. I went in a couple of days ago and they said it was no longer valid so I've sent it off to the DVLA with my new address and now i'm just waiting for it to come back which, with any luck, will be sometime this week. I've been told to get my 7 days free insurance from Fiat in place as of the 30th, SO assuming the V5 gets here in time i'm going to get it on Saturday, WOOHOO! Of course nothing ever runs smoothly so we'll see!
I'm so glad this scrappage scheme was given the go ahead, i know a lot of people think it's a waste of time but i genuinely don't think i'd of ever got the finance if this extra bit of lime light wasn't put on getting the car industry rolling again, driving a Micra for two years has finally paid off!(y)

Soon enough i'll be posting photos of my new pride and joy in Bossa Nova White with black ambiance/red cloth... ahh. Bliss. I've also decided to call it Gino Ginelli... like off of the ice cream :)

Enough with the rambling already! Katie x

Well done Katie, your story should be on a poster for the success of the scrappage scheme! I'm sure you will love your new car, and we will all be interested to see lots of pics!

I really hope you get the V5 back in time but there is a bank holiday in the way and these things don't always have the quickest turn around. Fingers and toes crossed tho!

I assume its a pop as you have red seats... they're really cool, I liked the 2 tone red ones on the pop. Happy waiting!

Are any fiat dealers offering 0% finance on the 500?

I wouldn't have thought so. I was told they may be able to offer 6.5% on a "flat rate", which equates to about 13% APR.
Your best bet could be to check moneysupermarket.com, or similar. Tesco and Sainsbury can offer 8-8.9% APR at the moment, which is about as good as you can get as a personal loan.

Oh well I will just have to renew my MOT on the Puma on the 29th and save up to buy one with cash.

I really REALLY hope it gets back in time, i posted it Friday, the dealers seem hopeful... heck they even put it in an envelope and wrote the address on for me and advised on the best post box to put it in! I think perhaps the bells of commission were ringing...

Yeah it's the Pop, i wasn't sure on having the black ambiance at first (chosen more for the cleanliness side of things, i'm a nightmare with anything lighter than black!) but now I've seen it i'm really please with how it contrasts with the white.

Now just a tedious long week of crossing my fingers and repeating that 'please get here on time' V5 chant...

I tend to agree. I shudder to think at the future classics which will be scrapped under this scheme.

My 406 is an absolute heap, the head gasket is gone or the head is cracked, the body while free of rust is scratched to hell and has a couple of dents too, the upholstery is stained and it's generally in rather poor condition though other than the head it's quite good mechanically. For me the scrappage is a no-brainer as I'm getting £2000 or so for a car which would be worth £200 @ most.

But I do feel sad knowing some interesting and worthwhile cars will be scrapped for no reason.

I hope you're going to look after your 500 better than this 306maxi! :D

By the way are you going to change your name to 500maxi when it arrives?

I didn't do any of that stuff to my car :) It was like that when I got it.

The only things that happened when I had it were a blown head gasket which I sorted, replacement of some rather knackered glow plugs as well as doing the timing belt and water pump. Oh and I replaced a spring which broke while the thing was standing for about 6 months.

I should have seen that the thing was a bucket of crap from a mile away......
Oh and 500Maxi would sound silly ;)

For those who don't know what a 306maxi is......

Basically a rallying 306 with the engine that the 406 BTCC car used to use.
