I really liked the bit in the Fiat email that said "If you are having difficulties with your Fiat dealer ordering a new Fiat 500 under the scrappage scheme" which makes me think they've been reading this forum or have had loads of calls from people like us.

The 500 Abarth is technically an Abarth and not a Fiat and Abarth aren't participating in the scrappage scheme.
I doubt you'll get a discount on the 500 on top of the scrappage scheme even if you offer to sleep with the salesman. I was offered £200 off before the scheme but after it was announced the salesman said it's the £2k and no more. He did say that when the scheme was announced things could change of course. I can understand why as well. Fiat weren't having to discount before and now they're taking a 1k hit on the profit on every car, so why should they discount further on a car that is still in demand?

Just asked really Jim - tried to get more cash off first, but they wouldn't budge, so asked for mats instead. Probably only costs them a tenner!
Fiat purchased Abarth & Co. in 1971
Abarth is basically a Fiat plus stickers and plastic bits, I still want one though and if the scrappage scheme is extended to the Abarth cars, I would purchase a 500 tomorrow, no question. Come on, the car will cost the best part of £17,000 with Essesse and a couple of options on it (over double the standard 500 price). Surely Fiat can afford to take a £1000 off this if they can afford to on a standard 1.2?
According to BMW Mini insiders, their first Mini Ones made them very little money unless people spec'ed them up - they relied on people doing this or ordering the Cooper, Cooper S or Cooper S Works with many bits. I would imagine the Fiat 500 follows a similar trend.
Just my thoughts, anyone know otherwise?

Coming back to 2009. Manufacturers can opt in and out of the scrappage scheme and Abarth have chosen to opt out.
To get my free mats and a set of kick plates (the ones from the sport with the 500 logo not the ones in the accessories cat which have no logo and fit in a diff place)
I just asked "why I should buy from you?" and when they gave the old "sorry we make no profit" bull I said ok I will go elsewhere.
Having said that this must be the least I have ever got off a new car

Don`t know if you guys could help me with this one? Is there any way I can get finance if I have an income but I am not employed? I see renault are offering 0% finance , do any other dealers offer this?
I will be able to buy a car in cash in a few months but I thought if I get one now on finance I would not have to get tax and Mot for my scrappage puma which run out at the end of this month.

Been to see a dealer today, and tried to extract free mats from him. He wouldn't budge on the mats, saying they cost them 50 quid, but offered me a model 500 instead.
Mentioned to him that people on here have said they have got free stuff with their order, and acted (unconvincingly) surprised.
Luckily, we have several Fiat dealers local to us :slayer:
Been to another dealer, and they claimed that the MOT covering the old car needs to cover the period of when the exchange is made, NOT when the order is placed.

Can anybody clarify this. At which point does the MOT need to cover up to? The date of which the new car is ordered, or the date when the new car gets delivered?

Notice the wording states DEALERS not MANUFACTURERS.
Looked to me like this thread needed some more confusion added!:bang:

Hi All, I have finally ordered a CCCAB 1.2 Lounge (16" O-spokes, black stripe, chrome mirrors) on the scrappage scheme - 12 weeks wait unfortunately! The dealer has verbally confirmed the scrappage discount, but so far I have not had any official paperwork - ie forms, or been required to submit any details regarding the scrapped vehicle. I just wonderd what other people`s experience with this has been. Has anyone been required to fill in any sort of official govt form yet?
I had to produce my V5C registration certificate and VT20 MOT certificate which they took copies of.
My problem was that the car tax runs out at end of May, but the 500 not due until July so I could have done a SORN, but then would still need to tax it in order to get old car to the dealer so paid for 6 months ticket and will claim back unused months.
